Remarkably, 12A effectively induces methuosis in tested cancer cells but not human normal cells. It is found that the 12A-induced vacuoles are derived from macropinosomes but not autophagosomes. The 12A-induced cytoplasmic vacuoles may originate from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and be accompanied by ER stress. The MAPK/JNK signalling pathway is involved in the 12A-induced methuotic cell death. Moreover, 12A exhibits significant inhibition of tumour growth in the MDA-MB-231 xenograft mouse model. In this study, quetiapine's effects were assessed on healthy sperm production in rats at repeated-pharmacological doses. Additionally, the effects of quetiapine on oxidative status and hormonal balance were also evaluated in rats. Quetiapine was administered to rats orally at 10, 20, and 40 mg/kg body weight doses for 28 days. At the end of this period, body and organ weights were measured, sperm concentration, motility, and morphology were determined, sperm damage was assessed, and histopathological analysis of testicular tissue was performed. Additionally, serum FSH, LH, and testosterone levels as male reproductive hormones were measured. Catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione, and malondialdehyde levels were determined for evaluating the oxidative status of testicular tissue. The findings obtained in this study showed that relative epididymis weights and sperm concentration decreased and abnormal sperm morphology increased in quetiapine-administered rats. Irregularity of typical architecture of the seminiferous tubules and germinal cell disorganization was observed in testicular sections of 20 and 40 mg/kg quetiapine-administered rats. Further, serum LH and testosterone levels decreased in 20 and 40 mg/kg quetiapine-administered rats. Additionally, decreased catalase and superoxide dismutase activities in testicular tissue of quetiapine-administered rats and increased malondialdehyde levels in testicular tissue of 40 mg/kg quetiapine-administered rats were measured. In conclusion, quetiapine treatment decreased sperm quality, altered hormone levels, and induced oxidative stress may be considered potential contributors to this adverse effect.Purpose This preliminary study was designed to assess the feasibility of Clear Speech Intervention Program (CSIP) on improving speech intelligibility of persons with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD). Clear Speech is a behavioural approach which focuses on improving speech intelligibility of persons with PD within a relatively short frame of time.Method A single group pretest-posttest design was used to assess the effectiveness of CSIP. Fifteen adults diagnosed with PD participated in 8 sessions of CSIP with each session lasting 45-50 minutes over a period of 4 weeks in South Korea. All the data were collected in a quiet room with an ambient noise level of equal to or less than 40 dB SPL. Data on acoustical/aerodynamic, auditory-perceptual, and self-perceptual measures were obtained pre- and post-intervention. The Phonatory Aerodynamic System (PAS) was used to analyse acoustical/aerodynamic data.Result The acoustical/aerodynamic assessment revealed statistically significant (p  less then  0.01) improvements in habitual pitch, pitch range, speaking rate, and number of respirations.
