Economic growth negatively affects environmental quality in all models. There is a one-way causal relationship from renewable energy consumption to energy intensity and energy intensity to growth.Water pollution, which has become a global problem in parallel with environmental pollution, is a problem that needs to be solved urgently, considering the gradual depletion of water resources. The inadequacy of the water treatment methods and the materials used somehow directed the researchers to look for dual character structures such as biocompatible and biodegradable β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). β-CD, which is normally insoluble in water, is used in demanding wastewater applications by being modified with the help of different agents to be water soluble or transformed into polymeric adsorbents as a result of co-polymerization via cross-linkers. In this way, in addition to the host-guest interactions offered by β-CD, secondary forces arising from these interactions provide advantages in terms of regeneration and reusability. However, the adsorption efficiency and synthesis steps need to be improved. Based on the current studies presented in this review, in which cross-linkers and modification methods are also mentioned, suggestions for novel synthesis methods of new-generation β-CD-based materials, criticisms, and recent methods of removal of micropollutants such as heavy metals, industrial dyes, harmful biomolecules, and pharmaceutics wastes are mentioned.In order to fulfil the growing need to replace fossil fuels, investigations exploring the production of biodiesel from agricultural biomass have gained attention. In this study, biodiesels were produced from Madhuca longifolia and Jatropha curcas by means of pre-treatment followed by a two-step acid-base homogeneous catalyst method. These biodiesels were blended with diesel at different percentages. The efficacy of the process was examined using various characterization methods while the efficiency of the produced biodiesels was examined by their engine performance and emission tests. Both Madhuca and Jatropha-based biodiesels exhibited physiochemical properties like that of diesel. Biodiesels were produced by pre-treating with orthophosphoric acid and toluene. The second step involves acid esterification, followed by base transesterification. Raman spectra exhibited C=O stretching at 1725 cm-1 indicating conversion of Madhuca and Jatropha oil into biodiesel. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed a s for the first time treatment of ortho phosphoric acid and toluene to produce biodiesel followed by a two-step homogeneous acid-base catalyst method, drastically reducing free fatty acid value.
The objective of this study was to measure the influence of differences in out-of-pocket (OOP) costs for type2 diabetes (T2D) medications on within-patient adherence behavior towards combination drug therapy regimens.
This was an observational, retrospective, paired sample study in patients with T2D using longitudinal pharmacy data from the 2009-2014 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) augmented with socio-demographic factors. We took a within-patient approach to minimize confounding effects by including patients who maintained the same number of diabetes drug classes over 2years of MEPS. For each patient, we selected the most and least costly drug classes in the second year and examined their corresponding adherence behavior measured by medication possession ratio. The primary hypothesis tested the significance of the correlation between magnitude of the OOP cost difference and behavioral response in adherence.
Analysis included 1189 patients representing over 4.2 million US residents with T2D. A sially until a cost threshold, beyond which the adherence to the more costly medication decreased. In addition to OOP cost, adherence was also influenced by type of medication and self-perception of health. Given the complex correlation between OOP costs and adherence to medication, we suggest a careful approach to cost-sharing in the current insurance drug design and relevant insurance policies.Host plant resistance mechanisms play an important role in developing cultivars with resistance to the target pests; information regarding morphological and biochemical factors contributing to the resistance is essential for developing pest-resistant cultivars. Hesperetin has been reported to exert several protective effects on cardiovascular diseases, while little is known about the role of hesperetin and its underlying mechanism in macrophage foam cell formation. In this study, we sought to investigate the potential effects of hesperetin on foam cell formation and cholesterol efflux by using human macrophages, focusing on liver X receptor alpha (LXRα) and AMPK. We found that hesperetin treatment reduced foam cell formation, intracellular cholesterol levels and the cholesterol esterification rate, and increased cholesterol efflux in THP-1 macrophages. Hesperetin increased the levels of LXRα protein and its targets, including ABCA1, ABCG1, SR-BI, and phosphorylated-AMPK. Meanwhile, the hesperetin-induced increase in LXRα expression was further increased by the AMPK agonist and inhibited by an AMPK inhibitor.
