Hydraulic heads were measured to an accuracy of ±0.0065 m, and the average hydraulic gradient was estimated to be 8.0 × 10-6 (±0.9 × 10-6 ) m/m. The improvement in accuracy allowed for two reversals in the groundwater flow direction to be identified, after which the gradient averaged 2.5 × 10-5 (±0.4 × 10-5 ) m/m. This study showed it is possible to sufficiently control sources of error to measure hydraulic gradients in the 10-6 to 10-5 m/m range.
COVID-19 disease can lead to severe functional impairments after discharge. We assessed the quality of life of invasively ventilated COVID-19 ARDS survivors.
We carried out a prospective follow-up study of the patients admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) of a teaching hospital. Patients affected by COVID-19 ARDS who required invasive ventilation and were successfully discharged home were assessed through the telephone administration of validated tests. We explored survival, functional outcomes, return to work, quality of life, cognitive and psychological sequelae. The main variables of interest were the following demographics, severity scores, laboratory values, comorbidities, schooling, working status, treatments received during ICU stay, complications, and psychological, cognitive, functional outcomes.
Out of 116 consecutive invasively ventilated patients, overall survival was 65/116 (56%) with no death occurring after hospital discharge. Forty-two patients were already discharged home with a median follow-up time of 61 (51-71) days after ICU discharge and 39 of them accepted to be interviewed. Only one patient (1/39) experienced cognitive decline. The vast majority of patients reported no difficulty in walking (32/3582%), self-care (33/3985%), and usual activities (30/3978%). All patients were either malnourished (15/3938%) or at risk for malnutrition (24/3962%). Crenolanib Exertional dyspnea was present in 20/39 (51%) patients. 19/39 (49%) reported alterations in senses of smell and/or taste either before or after hospitalization.
Invasively ventilated COVID-19 ARDS survivors have an overall good recovery at a 2-months follow-up which is better than what was previously reported in non-COVID-19 ARDS patients.

DNA tandem repeats (TRs) are often abundant and occupy discrete regions in eukaryotic genomes. These TRs often cause or generate chromosomal rearrangements, which, in turn, drive chromosome evolution and speciation. Tracing the chromosomal distribution of TRs could therefore provide insights into the chromosome dynamics and speciation among closely related taxa. The basic chromosome number in the genus Senna is 2n = 28, but dysploid species like Senna tora have also been observed.
To understand the dynamics of these TRs and their impact on S. tora dysploidization.
We performed a comparative fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis among nine closely related Senna species and compared the chromosomal distribution of these repeats from a cytotaxonomic perspective by using the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 sequence to infer phylogenetic relationships.
Of the nine S. tora TRs, two did not show any FISH signal whereas seven TRs showed similar and contrasting patterns to other Senna species. StoTR01_86, which wats during genome reshuffling.
Safety information obtained in phase 1 trials is becoming increasingly important with the recent changes in the development strategy of oncology drugs, including the skipping of phase 2 or 3 trials before regulatory approval. This study aimed to investigate the predictive factors for severe adverse events (AEs) in phase 3 trials based on phase 1 trial data.
The data on phase 1 and phase 3 trials applied for their marketing approval of the newly approved anticancer drugs in Japan were used for analysis. Regression analyses were performed to investigate factors related to the predictability of the occurrence of severe AEs in phase 3 trials based on phase 1 trial data.
Thirty-two drugs (80 phase 1 trials and 40 phase 3 trials) were selected for the analyses. As a result of multivariate regression analyses, immune therapy agents (P = 0.009) and a pair of monotherapy in the phase 1 trials and combination therapy in the phase 3 trials (P = 0.017) were associated with low predictability of severe AEs in the phase 3 trials; signal inhibitor agents (P = 0.002) and large number of subjects in phase 1 trials (P = 0.008) were associated with high predictability. A significant relationship between the actual number of subjects in phase 1 trials and the predictability of severe AEs was observed when trials for immune checkpoint inhibitors were excluded (P < 0.001).
These results should be effectively utilized for the strategic design of early-stage oncology drug development.

Thus, this paper aims to explore the long-run and causal effects of CO2 emissions, globalization energy usage, trade openness and urbanization on economic growth in Japan by employing new econometric techniques. The paper uses a dataset spanning from 1970 to 2015 and employs recent econometric techniques. To the best of the investigator's understanding, no prior studies have examined this linkage utilizing the wavelet coherence technique for Japan. The novelty of the wavelet is that it can capture the causality and long-run linkage between economic variables at different frequencies and periods. Thus, the study's aim is to address the following questions (i) Is there a long-run and causal linkage between economic growth, energy usage, urbanization, CO2 emissions, trade openness and globalization? (ii) What is the interaction between economic growth and the regressors at various frequencies and periods? The paper utilizes the ARDL, DOLS and FMOLS to catch the long-run effects, whereas the wavelet coherence technique is employed to capture the causal effects among the indicators. The outcomes of the ARDL show that urbanization, CO2 emissions, globalization and energy usage trigger economic growth, while no significant linkage is found between trade openness and economic growth. The wavelet coherence approach reveals (i) positive co-movements between economic growth and the regressors and (ii) a one-way causality from CO2 emissions and energy usage to economic growth.
