They claim that evolution is impossible, because it requires miracles. The pioneers of modern scientific thought shunned miracles out of fear they might lose their credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary and special creation. They consider their views to be "theistic evolution." This is sometimes known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from created kinds." In this theory, God creates the original species and allows them to change over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species that are similar to the original.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in a single event known as the Great Flood. These creationists hold that all the species of the beginning were created at the same time and then gradually evolved. They reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that self-replicating life cannot arise from nonliving matter.

In general, the creationists are against teaching evolution at schools. This is supported by a variety of professional organizations, including the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. What exactly is Creationism in Korea?

When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent organization that is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this effort. The STR has scored its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. Its next target is to remove the finch-research of Darwin's famed as well as on human evolution.

STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individuals. The goal, according to STR is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" that paints an image of students as being negative. It also hopes to combat the influence of American Creationists in the United States. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear however, they could be related to religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.

The KACR has achieved a number of things in the past through lectures and seminar events. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. Among these is a textbook on the natural sciences, with a creationist viewpoint, which has sparked interest among college students. In 1991, a professor and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university and it continues to be taught to this day.

On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from outside the country including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to an audience of several thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering talks on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
