The best for Carpet

If you have carpeting, select a robot vacuum that has a high score for rug and carpet ability to maneuver and pick up. Many models do a decent job of removing dust embedded in low-pile carpet, and several do a decent job at picking up heavier debris such as orzo pasta, metal screws and pet hair. They can't take in fine particles like an upright or canister, and they may be unable to pick up dirt close to baseboards or thresholds.


The best option for carpeted homes is a 2-in-1 robot vacuum/mop, which allows you to swap between a cleaning bin and mopping pad with damp. The Combo i5 has a long runtime and excellent path-planning for the size of the device.

If you want a more advanced model, look into the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Self-Empty Robot Vacuum & Mop. It has a large dock that can last for weeks and not need to be emptied. It also has impressive ability to navigate and auto-empty on carpets and floors that are not cleaned. It also has a smart mapping system, and can be programmed to run only during specific hours (a beneficial feature to keep mischievous children and dextrous animals from running amok). The Shark is less powerful than other mop/robot combinations, but it does pick up pet hair and hair very well. It's also the highest price of our top picks.

Ideal for Hard Floors

Robot vacuums are the ideal choice for hardwood floors as they can easily maneuver around obstacles without damaging bare surfaces. They are great at picking up dust and crumbs but struggle with pet hair or larger debris. They don't have the suction of an upright or a top-quality canister vacuum, making them a poor choice for deep cleaning carpeted or upholstery areas.

The best two-in-one robots combine a vacuum and a mop and take care of an entire task in one sweep. Look for a model that has an onboard sensor that can detect any changes in the flooring and adjust suction in line with the changes. If you have a lot of hardwood flooring in your home you may want to consider a robot mop and vacuum combination like the Eufy S1 Pro. This model is an impressive robotic vacuum that has smart navigation that can clean hardwood and other surfaces. It also mop. The sensors help it avoid the stairs and other hazards, so you don't have to be worried about the robot falling down the stairs and damaging your hardwood.

The eufy S1 Pro mop is designed to wash hardwood floors using downward pressure, not simply swab them to remove dust and dirt. The mop pads that are reusable reduce the amount of waste, and make it less likely to spread germs, and can be cleaned in the docking station, saving your time. The mops can also be cleaned and dried to stop the spread of mold.

The robovac is controlled by your smartphone, making it easier to use. For instance you can make use of the app to designate a no-go zone that the vacuum cannot enter, label separate rooms, or schedule cleaning sessions for certain areas.
