Evolution Korea
For a long time the Korean scientific community resisted engaging with the creationists out of fear of giving the movement more credibility. The silence is no longer an option.
The STR has been battling to get rid of textbooks that discuss evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds. This is only one example of how the development paradigm has changed.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains changes in genetic traits over time. The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their environments which can result in changes in genes or even complete genomes. These changes could over generations result in the development of new species. Natural selection is the dominant theory of evolution. It describes how individuals who have advantages can reproduce faster and longer than those with less favorable traits. This differential reproduction can be a catalyst to the development and emergence of new species.
The word "evolution" originates from the Latin word for unraveling or revealing, however the concept itself has had many different meanings over the years as it has taken form in the fields of science and elsewhere. Some early evolutionists, like Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather), believed that existing species changed into other species in a certain way. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire, Lamarck's embryologist pupil who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 challenged this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the notion that existing species change into other species in a gradual and predictable manner.
Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process in which living creatures develop traits that increase their chances of living or conceiving offspring. As time passes the genetic variability could lead to the emergence of completely new physical or biological traits in the same population. Natural selection is the process that drives the most evolutionary changes. However non-genetic changes like the increase in muscle mass from diet or exercise cannot be considered to be examples of evolution because they are not passed on to future generations.
Creationists make the argument that evolution is controversial despite the fact that it has been proven true by thousands of scientific tests and it has stood the test of time. They argue that the theory shouldn't be taught at school. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories against evolution in textbooks for high school. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary origins for humans as well as Archaeopteryx - a feathered dino believed to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important?
에볼루션 바카라 사이트 explains how the Earth and all living species evolved. It is also one of the foundations of biology and helps scientists discover how living things operate and develop. Evolution also shows how different species are linked. Scientists study evolution to better understand the natural world, and also to make important discoveries like the development of new medicines.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. No other scientific theory explains more about the universe and the life on earth. It has been thoroughly studied and verified for many years. Many people, even some religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. 에볼루션 코리아 is essential to remember that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religious beliefs as it only focuses on physical objects, events, and processes.
In reality, many religious people have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. Certain Christians for instance believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans share an ancestry that is shared with other animals.
It is essential for science educators to support the teaching of evolution. In some countries, the opposition to evolution has been growing. In the United States some states have taken measures to restrict teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC), is campaigning for textbooks to include content on the evolutionary history of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
While these are disturbing changes, it's important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution is based on a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics, and the behavior of living creatures. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.
The vast majority of scientists supports the theory of evolution. This belief is based on many different reasons. Some scientists study evolution in order to make practical discoveries such as the development of new medicines and other treatments, while others use it to improve animal and plants species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some are simply curious, and others have a profound faith in God and are seeking to understand how the universe functions.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe the Bible is God's word and should be believed to be true. Many creationists are Christians, but not all. Creationists are usually divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
YECs are the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the world in the exact way described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is literal, and that the universe and life on Earth was created only recently.
OECs are less well known, but they're just as passionate about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions-of-years old and that evolution is a myth.
Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles such as natural selection and abiogenesis are able to explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution isn't possible because it would require an extraordinary event, and that the scientists who founded modern science rejected miracles out of fear of losing credibility.
Some creationists believe in both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their belief "theistic evolution." This is sometimes also known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." This theory states that God creates original species and then allows them to evolve over time. In the end, these evolutionary changes will produce new species that are like the original ones.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in one event known as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that the first species were all created simultaneously, and that they evolved gradually afterward. They deny the notion of abiogenesis and claim that self-replicating life cannot arise from non-living matter.
In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. This is a position that is backed by numerous professional organizations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education, the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. Certain scientists and educational institutions are, however, more flexible and allow evolution and creationism to be included in their curricula.
What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. Publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their textbooks. A group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. The STR has achieved its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, the Archeopteryx. Its next target is to take out portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individuals. Its mission, it states, is to rid the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints an image of students as being negative. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of biology students teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in evolution. The reasons for this are not clear, but may include religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists across the United States.
The KACR has achieved many things through its seminars and lectures. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences, with a creationist viewpoint, which attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught to students today.
On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given talks on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
