Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) exposure is widespread in the general population and previous research has suggested that it contains endocrine-disrupting properties that can adversely affect the reproductive health system. Trichostatin A in vitro The objective of this study was to use the 2013-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data to assess the potential association between DEHP exposure and infertility in women. Using a nationally representative, cross-sectional study design, we used multiple logistic regression to measure the association of urinary metabolites of DEHP with self-reported history of infertility among women. Four metabolites of DEHP were examined mono(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (MEHP), mono(2-ethyl-5-hydroxy-hexyl)phthalate (MEHHP), mono(2-ethyl-5-oxy-hexyl) phthalate (MEOHP), and mono(2-ethyl-5-carboxy-pentyl)phthalate (MECPP). These metabolites were calculated into a molar sum of DEHP (∑DEHP) and split into quartiles for analysis. After adjusting for age and race, ∑DEHP was associated with increased odds of infertility for the second quartile (AOR = 2.35, 95% CI [1.24,4.44], p = 0.01) and third quartile (AOR = 2.83, 95% CI [1.57, 5.10], p less then 0.01) when compared to the first quartile (reference). The adjusted OR for the highest quartile of ∑DEHP found no association and it was not statistically significant (AOR = 0.99, 95 %CI [0.57, 1.73], p = 0.98). The findings of this study add to the already complex existing literature on phthalate exposure and infertility. These findings warrant further population-based cohort studies on phthalate exposure and their relationship to infertility in humans.

A number of pharmacological agents that utilize mechanisms that enhanced neuronal survival and/or neural regeneration have been developed for the treatment of stroke. Hypothermia protects the brain from damage caused by ischemia by attenuating destructive processes such as neuroinflammation, excitotoxicity, blood-brain barrier disruption, apoptosis, and free radical formation following cerebral ischemia. In the present study, we examined the neuroprotective potential of FP on permanent occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCAO)-induced ischemia in mice.
C57Bl mice were subjected to MCAO. FP was administered 1h prior to and immediately after surgery. The brains were collected 24h later and infarct volumes were measured using immune-histochemical staining, DAPI, NeuN, synaptophysin, and NR2B were quantified.
Administration of FP prior to MCAO significantly reduced infarct volume, with no effect on infarct volume immediately after MCAO. Higher numbers of cells and neurons were observed in the peri-infarct area in both groups of mice. FP-induced hypothermia protected tissue in the peri-infarct region from synaptophysin reduction. NMDA receptor 2 (NR2B) immunoreactivity is enhanced by MCAO, with no difference observed in both sham-operated and FP-induced hypothermia groups of mice.
The data suggest that FP might be useful in the reduction of ischemia-induced infarct volume when administered prior to the initiation of ischemia with no effect observed after ischemia induction.

Berberine is a quaternary ammonium isoquinoline alkaloid, mainly extracted from plants berberaceae, papaveraceae, ranunculaceae and rutaceae such as coptis chinensis Franch, Phellodendron chinense, and berberis pruinosa. The plants are extensively used in traditional medicine for treating infection, diabetes, arrhythmia, tumor, osteoporosis et al. Pharmacological studies showed berberine has effects of anti-inflammation, anti-tumor, lower blood lipid, lower blood glucose, anti-osteoporosis, anti-osteoarthritis et al. AIM OF THE STUDY This review aims to summarize the application of natural herbs that contain berberine, the further use and development of berberine, the effects as well as mechanism of berberine on osteoblasts and osteoclasts, the recent advances of in vivo studies, in order to provide a scientific basis for its traditional uses and to prospect of the potential applications of berberine in clinics.

This review has systematically summarized the application, pharmacological effects, mechanism as well as in vivo studies of berberine and herbs which contain berberine. Berberine has a definite effect in promoting the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts as well as inhibiting the production of osteoclasts to promote bone regeneration. However, the present studies about the system mechanisms and pharmacological activity of berberine were incomplete. Applying berberine for new drug development remains an exciting and promising alternative to bone regeneration engineering, with broad potential for therapeutic and clinical practice.
Many studies are performed with the aerial parts of Cannabis sativa L. (Cannabaceae). However, roots remain poorly studied, despite citations in the scientific literature. The C. sativa roots are indicated for the treatment of pain, inflammation, fever, among other health problems.
This study aimed to evaluate the antinociceptive, antipyretic, antiasthmatic, and spasmolytic activities of C. sativa roots in experimental models using mice and rats.
The chemical composition of the aqueous extract of C. sativa roots (AECsR) was evaluated by LC-MS. The antinociceptive activity was assessed in mice by the induction of writhing with acetic acid, paw licking with formalin, and reactivity in the hot plate test. Fever was induced by the administration of a suspension of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in young rats. The asthmatic activity was performed with ovalbumin (OVA)-immunized mice with cellular and histological analysis. Finally, the spasmolytic activity was performed using mice isolated trachea. For in vivo studies, the doses were 12.
