The cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2015 to June 2016 at the Gynaecological Clinics of King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and comprised lactating mothers in the community. Data was collected using a pretested questionnaire. Data was analysed using SPSS 22.
Of the 552 mothers, 301(54.5%) were age >30 years. The source of information about colostrum was friends and family for 367(66.67%) subjects. Overall, 367(66%) had high knowledge about colostrum. A significant correlation was detected between age and knowledge about colostrum composition and duration (p<0.05); as well as between educational level and colostrum composition, colour and form (p<0.05). A significant association between occupational status and knowledge about colostrum colour and form was also noted (p<0.05).

To evaluate inmate referrals to emergency department of a tertiary healthcare facility in terms of demographical and clinical characteristics as well as their impact on the department.
The retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital, Ankara, Turkey and comprised data of incarcerated patients who were brought to the emergency department from January 01, 2010, to December 31, 2012. Demographical characteristics, consultations, duration of hospitalisation, recurrent admissions, disposal and mortality rates were noted. The referrals were grouped as surgical conditions, medical disorders, Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat problems, injury and psychiatric disorders. The groups were then subdivided according to diagnosis. SPSS 22 was used for data analysis.
Of the 856 patients, 804(93.4%) were men and 52(6.1%) were women. The overall mean age was 37.54±14.81 years (range 15-83 years). The number of patients was the highest in the medical group 363(42.4%) and the lowest in the Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat group 56(6.5%). Mean age of the surgical group was significantly lower than the medical group (p<0.001) but significantly higher than that of the trauma group (p=0.001).

To scrutinise the contribution of childhood disease awareness in mothers to minimise the risk of disease severity in children aged <5 years and to evaluate the effectiveness of a proposed app in this context.
The evolutionary study was conducted in Children's Hospital and the Institute of Child Health Multan from September 2018 to February 2019 and comprised two sessions with the app involving 30 mothers who were provided with smartphones with the app installed. The mothers were divided into 4 age groups. The app was evaluated using quantitative and qualitative measures. Suggestions and opinions were obtained in the first session and all suggestions were implemented by the second session.
Of the 30 mothers, 8(26.6%) were in Group 1 aged 14-20 years, 12(40%) in Group 2 aged 21-27 years, 7(23.3%) in Group 3 aged 28-34 years and 3(10%) in Group 4 aged 35 years and above. The participants were able to diagnose their children's diseases accurately by following the instructions provided by the app. The subjects also agreed that they diagnosed the diseases accurately. All the participants were interested in the app and expressed the desire to have it available across the healthcare facilities in Pakistan.
All subjects showed acceptance for the app and affirmed its easy usability, especially for illiterate mothers.

The growing number of older people due to demographic transition is paving the way for nongovernmental organizations and the private sector for mushrooming of old age homes (OAHs). These homes function either free or fee for services and the services provided at these OAHs determines the quality of life of older people. The aim of the study was to explore the stakeholders' perception on the quality of services offered to people living in OAHs.
A descriptive qualitative study design was used to explore stakeholders' perception of elderly living experiences in old age homes. Three OAH were selected through purposive sampling for the study. Data collected from February-March 2015 through the structured interview guide. Participants' for FGDs were recruited through universal sampling, while purposive sampling was used for KIIs selection. Researcher ensured all ethical considerations for the entire study period.
Two major themes were drawn including the reasons and experiences of older people living in OAH, secondly the need for caregivers' academic competencies. Majority of KIIs and FGDs reported common responses under the two themes. Also the elderly experiences varied from living comfortably to being depressed. selleck compound KIIs and caregivers' FGD participants' strongly urged the need for caregivers' training and institutional accreditation.
The results of the study on the older people's experiences and challenges of living in OAHs, strongly propose community support system and credentialing of the caregivers for age appropriate care. Moreover the capacity building of academia for offering specialized training in gerontology and geriatrics is also highlighted.
