BACKGROUND Colon cancer generally begins as a neoplastic growth of tissue, called polyps, originating from the inner lining of the colon wall. Most colon polyps are considered harmless but over time, they can evolve into colon cancer, which when diagnosed in later stages is often fatal. Hence, time is of the essence in the early detection of polyps and the prevention of colon cancer. METHODS To aid this endeavour, many computer-aided methods have been developed, which use a wide array of techniques to detect, localize and segment polyps from CT Colonography images. In this paper, a comprehensive state-of-the-art method is proposed and categorize this work broadly using the available classification techniques using Machine Learning and Deep Learning. CONCLUSIONS The performance of each of the proposed approach is analyzed with existing methods and also how they can be used to tackle the timely and accurate detection of colon polyps. OBJECTIVE α,β-Unsaturated ketones of 6-acetyl-5-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin were precursors for synthesis of 2,3-dihydro1H-1,5-benzodiazepines through its reaction with o-phenylenediamine. METHOD Enones of 6-acetyl-5-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin were prepared from this ketone and (un)substituted benzaldehydes in the presence of piperidine, triethylamine, or pyridine as a catalyst in absolute ethanol with 11 molar ratios, respectively. 2',3'-Dihydro-1H-1',5'-benzodiazepines were synthesized by using the reaction of these enones with o-phenylenediamine in absolute ethanol in the presence of with glacial acetic acid as a catalyst. Their biological activities were evaluated using disk diffusion method. RESULTS Seven new 2',3'-dihydro-1H-1',5'-benzodiazepines were obtained and their structures were confirmed by thin layer chromatography, IR, NMR and MS spectra. Some synthesized benzodiazepines had antibacterial and antifungal activities againsts Escherichia coli (Gram-(-) bacterium), Staphylococus epidermidis (Gram-(+) bacterium). Candida albicans (fungus). CONCLUSION The formation of enones from 6-acetyl-5-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin and (un)substituted benzaldehydes could be catalyzed by piperidine, triethylamine, pyridine to afford the similar yields. OBJECTIVES The study was aimed to investigate the characteristics of new HIV/AIDS and the major factors of false positives (FP) for HIV testing. METHODS A retrospective review was performed in a teaching hospital in Xi'an between 2013 and 2018. The overall characteristics and trends of new HIV/AIDS were described. Moreover, the major factors of FP were determined by the Pareto analysis. RESULTS A total of 469 new HIV/AIDS were diagnosed, with an increasing prevalence of the new HIV/AIDS from 0.0626% (41/65503) in 2013 to 0.0827% (115/139046) in 2018. Of them, the majority occurred in the males (88.50%), people aged 21-50 years (76.97%), migrants (60.98%) and sexual contact route (88.70%). There were a rapid increase in the annual number of new HIV/AIDS and increasing trends in groups of young individuals, students and homosexual mode, however, a downward trend in the percentage of injecting drug use was also observed. Over 50 years old and patients from oncology, obstetrics, hepatobiliary surgery, nephrology, cardiology and infectious disease constituted the major factors of FP. CONCLUSIONS The HIV/AIDS epidemic in Xi'an is still evolving, therefore, effective strategies, appropriate education and scaling up HIV testing should be developed.
