In this review, we explore existing literature for bleeding risk, interventional therapy and neuroradiological features in HHT-related CAVMs. Studies estimate the annual intracerebral haemorrhage rate of CAVMs in HHT patients to be 0.667-1.014%. The clinician must balance bleeding risk and the non-negligible procedural risks of interventional therapy. This is a case report of a 21-year-old woman admitted with high fever, confusion, petechial rash and hypotension. The patient was hospitalised for eight days, two of which were at the intensive care unit for norepinephrine infusion for hypotension. She was successfully treated with the antibiotics dicloxacillin and clindamycin.In this review, we discuss viral pneumonias in an overall setting. Viruses are involved in about a quarter of all pneumonias, but despite literature in the past couple of decades emphasising this, the clinical effect remains elusive, and almost all hospitalised patients with pneumonia are treated with antibiotics. Thus, improved diagnostic methods and further research on the subject have the potential to benefit the overall treatment of patients with pneumonia, decrease antibiotic overconsumption and accelerate development of new antiviral therapeutics.Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a treatment option for refractory irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In this review, we describe the background of CBT for IBS, the studies investigating the effect, and how CBT for IBS is executed. CBT addresses cognitive and emotional factors affecting perception and modulation of visceral stimuli. The aim of CBT is to identify and restructure thoughts and behaviours, which contribute to sustainment of symptoms. Based on 34 randomised, controlled trials, there is a symptomatic effect of CBT on IBS, and this is relevant to include in treatment of IBS in tertiary clinics.
The prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders demands methods of accessible assessment that reliably captures cognition in daily life contexts. We investigated the feasibility of smartphone cognitive assessment in people with Parkinson's disease (PD), who may have cognitive impairment in addition to motor-related problems that limit attending in-person clinics. We examined how daily-life factors predicted smartphone cognitive performance and examined the convergent validity of smartphone assessment with traditional neuropsychological tests.

Twenty-seven nondemented individuals with mild-moderate PD attended one in-lab session and responded to smartphone notifications over 10 days. The smartphone app queried participants 5x/day about their location, mood, alertness, exercise, and medication state and administered mobile games of working memory and executive function.

Response rate to prompts was high, demonstrating feasibility of the approach. Between-subject reliability was high on both cognitive games.xt on cognitive variability in PD. Further development of this accessible assessment method could increase sensitivity and specificity regarding daily cognitive dysfunction for PD and other clinical populations.
The term intellectually gifted (IG) refers to children of high intelligence, which is classically measured by the intelligence quotient (IQ). Some researchers assume that the cognitive profiles of these children are characterized by both strengths and weaknesses, compared with those of their typically developing (TD) peers of average IQ. The aim of the present systematic review was to verify this assumption, by compiling data from empirical studies of cognitive functions (language, motor skills, visuospatial processing, memory, attention and executive functions, social and emotional cognition) and academic performances.

The literature search yielded 658 articles, 15 of which met the selection criteria taken from the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses model. We undertook a qualitative summary, to highlight any discrepancies between cognitive functions.

IG children exhibited better skills than TD children in a number of domains, including attention, language, mathematics, verbal working memory, shifting, and social problem solving.
