Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can reduce the risk of HIV infection by over 90% among those at high risk via sexual transmission. PrEP acceptance and adherence remains low among those at highest risk of HIV, including Black men who have sex with men (MSM) in the southern U.S. This community-based participatory research project explored Black MSM's experiences with PrEP in North Carolina through photovoice, a methodology using photography and discussion. Our findings highlighted challenges and opportunities with PrEP, including intersectional stigma, the need for improved patient-provider education, and the role of community-based organizations in closing patient-provider gaps. This work is a first step towards understanding the daily lives of Black MSM on PrEP in the Triangle Region of North Carolina, including barriers and facilitators to PrEP use. Implications for public health practice highlight the need for conducting community-level interventions, integrating PrEP into primary care, and normalizing PrEP through community conversations.We have tracked belief in the effectiveness of HIV treatment as prevention (TasP) among Australian gay and bisexual men (GBM) since 2013. National, online cross-sectional surveys of GBM were conducted every 2 years during 2013-2019. Exatecan manufacturer Trends and associations were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. Data from 4,903 survey responses were included. Belief that HIV treatment prevents transmission increased from 2.6% in 2013 to 34.6% in 2019. Belief in the effectiveness of TasP was consistently higher among HIV-positive participants than other participants. In 2019, higher levels of belief in TasP were independently associated with university education, being HIV-positive, using pre-exposure prophylaxis, knowing more HIV-positive people, being recently diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and use of post-exposure prophylaxis. Belief that HIV treatment prevents transmission has increased substantially among Australian GBM, but remains concentrated among HIV-positive GBM, those who know HIV-positive people, and GBM who use antiretroviral-based prevention.This study evaluated whether the association between substance use and sexual risk behavior varies as a function of age among 1,009 Black men who have sex with men (BMSM) in New York City. Hierarchical linear regression was used to examine the relationship between age (18-26 vs. 27+), substance use, and number of sexual partners and acts of condomless anal sex (CAS) in the past 90 days. Age moderated the relationship between substance use and sexual risk behavior, such that positive associations among binge drinking, marijuana, cocaine, and party drug use and number of male sexual partners and cocaine use and acts of CAS were significantly stronger among young adults than adults. BMSM may engage in more sexual risk behavior during young adulthood, and those who use substances may be at increased risk for HIV transmission-particularly through multiple sex partners. HIV prevention interventions targeting BMSM may benefit from being tailored to age and addressing sexual risk behavior and substance use concurrently.HIV discrimination has served as a barrier to addressing the HIV epidemic and providing effective HIV treatment and care. Measuring HIV discrimination, particularly covert HIV discrimination, has proven to be complex. Adapted from a previous scale, we developed a perpetuated HIV micro-aggressions scale to assess covert forms of discriminatory beliefs among HIV-negative/unknown HIV status individuals. Factor analysis resulted in three subscales, explaining 73.58% of the scale's variance. The new scale demonstrated both convergent validity (HIV prejudice, HIV stereotypes) and discriminant validity (alcohol use, depressive symptomology). Perpetuated HIV microaggressions were significantly associated with HIV conspiracy beliefs, HIV prejudice, and HIV stereotypes. This new scale can serve as an important tool in evaluating perpetuated HIV microaggressions among HIV-negative individuals.

This study characterized the relationship of third-generation cephalosporin-resistant
(3GCR-EC) isolated from animal feces in the environment and child feces based on phenotypic antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and whole genome sequencing (WGS).
We examined 3GCR-EC isolated from environmental fecal samples of domestic animals and child fecal samples in Ecuador. We analyzed phenotypic and genotypic AMR, as well as clonal relationships (CRs) based on pairwise single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) analysis of 3GCR-EC core genomes. CRs were defined as isolates with fewer than 100 different SNPs.

Recent data show a more complex situation, with mortality rates for overall cardiovascular disease, including coronary heart disease and stroke, decelerating, whereas those for heart failure are increasing. To mark the 40th anniversary of the Bethesda Conference, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the American Heart Association cosponsored the "Bending the Curve in Cardiovascular Disease Mortality Bethesda + 40" symposium. The objective was to examine the immediate and long-term outcomes of the 1978 conference and understand the current environment. Symposium themes included trends and future projections in cardiovascular disease (in the United States and internationally), the evolving obesity and diabetes epidemics, and harnessing emerging and innovative opportunities to preserve and promote cardiovascular health and prevent cardiovascular disease.
