Naturally occurring asbestos from ophiolitic outcrops can pose a health risk to the resident population. Some studies have documented this risk of exposure in many areas around the world. The aim of the study is to estimate the possible impact on health caused by asbestos outcrops present in some areas of Calabria, a region of southern Italy.
The design of the study is observational and uses routinely collected data on employment, compensations and mortality.
Data from archives of mortality in the period 2005-2015 were selected. Standardized mortality ratio (SMR) for malignant mesothelioma (MM) by municipalities of residence with reference to the regional population was estimated assuming a Poisson distribution of the data. Administrative archives of companies' employment records and occupational disease compensation data were used to exclude occupational origin cases.
A total of 163 cases of MM were identified. Statistically significant excess risks (P-value <0.05) were observed for several municiusal association with asbestos naturally occurring in these risk areas.

Nationally representative samples of the adult general population of the Republic of Ireland (N=1041) and the United Kingdom (N=2025) were assessed for their attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination at three points from March to August 2020.
Statistically significant increases in resistance to COVID-19 vaccination were observed in Irish (from 9.5% to 18.1%) and British (from 6.2% to 10%) adults.

In 2019, there were 29 reported cases of measles in the Canton of Zurich, with two cases occurring among university students. In collaboration with the University of Zurich Travel Clinic, the Health Department of the Canton of Zurich offered free measles vaccination to all employees and students at the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). This short communication shares the results of this large measles vaccination campaign.
Vaccination intervention campaign.
All employees and students at the UZH and ETH were informed via an email distribution list that they were eligible for cost-free consultation and measles vaccination (when indicated). Consultations and immunizations took place over the course of 3 days in June 2019at the UZH Travel Clinic. All those who were missing one or two doses of measles vaccination, and had no contraindications, were vaccinated. Booster immunizations were offered until December 2019.
A total of 411 individuals participated in the ereas more employees received booster immunization (57.8% of booster visits).

Coupled with intense media attention, such a campaign immediately following an outbreak may be an effective method to increase vaccination coverage.Hepatitis B virus (HBV) has a high rate of chronic infection in Asian populations, and only limited studies have been performed to analyze the impact of HBV-seropositive haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) recipients and donors. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect on clinical outcomes in those patients. We conducted a retrospective study enrolling 237 consecutive patients undergoing first haplo-HSCT. The patients were classified into 3 groups recipient HBV-positive group (R+D-; n = 62), donor HBV-positive group (D+; n = 83), and HBV-negative group (R-D-; n = 92). Corresponding prophylactic antiviral treatment was given in the R+D- and D+ groups. The results were compared among the 3 groups using the Kruskal-Wallis test for continuous variables, Pearson's chi-square test for categorical variables, the competing-risk method to evaluate cumulative incidence, Kaplan-Meier curves to estimate overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS), and a Cox proportional hazte analysis. Based on our data, seropositivity for hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg) or core antibody (HBcAb) in donors or recipients before transplantation did not negatively affect the overall outcome after haplo-HSCT under the premise of proper antiviral prophylaxis along with regular post-transplantation surveillance, and HBV seropositivity should not be considered a contraindication to haplo-HSCT.Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (allo-HCT) remains the only potentially curative therapeutic modality for patients with primary or secondary myelofibrosis (MF). Random-effects models were used to pool response rates for the co-primary outcomes of 1-year, 2-year, and 5-year overall survival (OS). Rates of non-relapse mortality and acute and chronic graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD) were studied as secondary endpoints.
