The presence of other hydrocarbon co-contaminants decreased the rates of benzene degradation by a factor of 2 to 4. Tracking the abundance of the abcA gene and 16S rRNA genes specific for benzene-degrading Thermincola and Sva0485 is recommended to monitor benzene bioremediation in anoxic groundwater systems to further uncover growth-rate-limiting conditions for these two intriguing phylotypes.Graphene family nanomaterials (GFNs) are rapidly emerging for ocular applications due to their outstanding physicochemical properties. Since the eyes are very sensitive organs and the contact between the eyes and GFNs in eye drops, contact lenses, intraocular drug delivery systems and biosensors and even the workers handling these nanomaterials is inevitable, it is necessary to investigate their ocular toxicities and physiological interactions with cells as well as their toxicity mechanisms. The toxicity of GFNs can be extremely affected by their physicochemical properties, including composition, size, surface chemistry, and oxidation level as well as dose and the time of exposure. Up to now, there are several studies on the in vitro and in vivo toxicity of GFNs; however, a comprehensive review on ocular toxicity and applications of GFNs is missing, and a knowledge about the health risks of eye exposure to the GFNs is predominantly unspecified. This review highlights the ocular applications of GFNs and systematically covers the most recent advances of GFNs' physicochemical properties, in vitro and in vivo ocular toxicity, and the possible toxicity mechanisms as well as provides some perspectives on the potential risks of GFNs in material development and biomedical applications.China's Tianwen-1 Mars rover carries a laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) payload named MarSCoDe to analyze the mineral and rock composition on Mars. MarSCoDe is expected to experience a wide working temperature range of about 100 °C, which will lead to a spectral shift of up to ∼40 pixels (∼8.13 nm). Even worse, drastic changes in temperature and environment may cause a loss or increase of some spectral lines of an on-board calibration Ti target. An elastic particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach is proposed to fulfill the on-board spectral calibration of MarSCoDe under this harsh condition. Through establishing a standard wavelength set (SWS) and an individual particle wavelength set (PWS), and further elastically selecting a part of PWS to compare with SWS, the problem of spectral shift and number mismatch can be solved gradually with the evolution of the particle swarm. Some tests of standard lamps and Ti with MarSCoDe, placed in a Mars simulation environment chamber (MSEC) in a temperature range of 70 °C, were completed. Compared with the standard spectrum of the Ti target (obtained at 20 °C), the spectral shifts of the first, second, and third channels are approximately 0.33 nm (5 pixels), 0.85 nm (6.4 pixels), and 8.09 nm (39.8 pixels), respectively, at -40 °C before correction; after PSO correction, the spectral shifts are greatly reduced to up to 0.015 nm, and specially for the 626.28 nm line, the spectral shift is reduced from 8.09 nm to about 0 nm. Experimental results demonstrate that the PSO-based approach can not only correct the on-board spectral shift but also solve the number mismatch of spectral lines of MarSCoDe in the harsh working environment of Mars. Further, it can be extended to the on-board calibration of other spectral payloads for deep space exploration. It has been a great challenge to simultaneously inhibit the outgrowth of both the primary tumor and metastasis in metastatic cancer treatment. check details Substantial studies have evidenced that the interaction of platelets and cancer cells supports tumor metastasis, and platelets are considered to have metastasis-targeting property. Inspired by injury-targeting and metastasis-targeting properties of platelets, we constructed a photothermal therapy strategy with activated platelet-targeting albumin-based nanoparticles, PSN-HSA-PTX-IR780, to amplify drug delivery in the primary tumor at mild temperatures and simultaneously inhibit metastasis via a "platelet bridge". Human serum albumin (HSA) was premodified with a P-selectin-targeting peptide (PSN peptide) or IR780 serving as a photosensitizer. Hybrid albumin nanoparticles were assembled via the disulfide reprogramming method and encapsulated paclitaxel (PTX) to formulate PSN-HSA-PTX-IR780. The PSN-modified albumin nanoparticles could bind with upregulated P-selectin on activated platelets and subsequently target cancer cells by using platelets as a "bridge". In addition, nanoparticle-generated hyperthermia induced tissue injury and increased tumor-infiltrating platelets, thereby recruiting more nanoparticles into the tumor in a self-promoted way. In vivo studies showed that the drug accumulation of PSN-HSA-PTX-IR780 was 2.86-fold higher than that of HSA-PTX-IR780 at the optimal temperature (45 °C), which consequently improved the therapeutic outcome. Moreover, PSN-HSA-PTX-IR780 also effectively targets and inhibits lung metastasis by binding with metastasis-infiltrating platelets. Altogether, the self-promoted nanoplatform provides a unique and promising strategy for metastatic cancer treatment with enhanced drug delivery efficacy. The fetus has birth traumatic, compression-hypoxic, and hypoxic-ischemic brain lesions during childbirth. There are problems in their differentiation in clinical and anatomopathological practice. It is proposed to divide birth traumatic injuries into two types 1) obvious traumatic injuries and 2) compression-hypoxic traumatic injuries. Signs of compression-hypoxic birth injuries were found in 24.4% of the examined fetuses and newborns delivered via vacuum extraction and application of obstetric forceps. This allows compression hypoxia to be attributed to birth injury rather than to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. It is proposed to use the concept of compression-hypoxic birth injury. The morphological signs that are characteristic of this type of birth injury are given. It is indicated that the impact of physical forces on the fetal head is mediated by its configuration. The mechanisms of birth traumatic injuries are systematized. The pathological configuration of the fetal head is shown to be of importance in explaining the cause of birth injury.
