The current study aimed to examine the effects of dietary spirulina supplementation in high-energy (HE) diets on fatty acid metabolism in sheep, and preliminarily explored the potential mechanisms underlying the associated autophagy-mediated regulation of lipid metabolism. In a 2 × 3 factorial design, including six treatment combinations of two metabolisable energy diets (10 and 11 MJ/kg DM), three spirulina supplementation levels (0, 1%, and 3%) were used. Serum alanineaminotransferase (ALT) (p = 0.003) and aspartatetransaminase (AST) (p = 0.002) activities increased, whereas total PUFA content (p less then 0.001) decreased in the liver of lambs fed a HE diet. With the addition of spirulina, serum ALT (p = 0.037) and AST (p = 0.014) activities decreased, whereas EPA (p = 0.004), GLA (p = 0.019), n-6 PUFA (p = 0.005), and total PUFA contents (p = 0.019) increased. Moreover, the crude protein content in the Longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) increased (p = 0.013), the expression of PPARα and PPARγ was up-regulated, while ELOVL2 was down-regulated in liver and LTL (p less then 0.05). Spirulina supplementation increased mRNA expression levels of autophagy-associated genes, including that of Beclin-1, AMPK, and ULK1 (p less then 0.05). In conclusion, spirulina supplementation in a HE diet exerted a protective effect on the liver, increased PUFA content, and modulated expression levels of autophagy-related genes in growing lambs.
To fulfil the needs of assessment tools in the Chinese population, we adapted the LENA Developmental Snapshot, a parent survey that measures early language and communication development in English-speaking children. We reported the psychometric properties of the adapted questionnaire and evaluated the metric and functional equivalence between the adapted and the original instruments.
The Snapshot was translated into Chinese and reviewed by an expert panel. English-specific items (e.g. past tense, plural) were mapped onto functionally similar Mandarin vocabulary and structures. The questionnaire was administered to 1300 families with children ages 2-48 months. The Bayley Scales of Infant Development was administered to a subsample.
Scores on the adapted questionnaire showed age-related increases in the 7-36 month age range and correlated with scores on the Chinese Bayley. The questionnaire showed high internal consistency and split-half reliability. Comparison with the US norm revealed slightly lower performance in the current sample. Adaptations of English-specific items resulted in functionally equivalent targets.
Despite differences in linguistic roots, the Chinese adaption of the LENA Snapshot captured developmental changes in children's language and communication abilities. Additional norming and validation efforts are needed in a more representative sample.

DC (Asteraceae) against phytopathogenic fungi. Bioactivity guided fractionation of the successive n-hexane, chloroform and methanol extract led to the isolation of the monoterpene ester (4 R,5S)-4-hydroxy-7-tigloyloxycarvotanacetone (1). The compound 1 was converted into acetyl derivative (2). The acetyl derivative (2) and the parent compound 1 were tested again phytopathogenic fungi by using mycelial inhibition and minimal inhibitory concentration values were found out by the broth microdilution method. The acetyl derivative (2) showed the highest antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani and Aspergillus niger. Based upon in vitro results, compound 1 was tested against Fusarium oxyporum (wilting disease) and compound 2 was tested against R. solani (leaf blight disease) in vivo using the foliar spray method. Both compounds had no phytotoxicity and also in silico docking study showed that both compounds were binding similarly as commercial fungicide carbendazim. The article constitutes a widely researched account of mental patients and their perceptions in the early history of Israel, especially its second decade. It focuses on a single generation, which experienced the traumas of war in Europe, followed by insecurity in Israel's struggle for independence. The article claims that in the 1960s many suffered from depression, reflected in a record number of patients in mental hospitals and mentally sick people, mostly of European origin. This study describes Israeli society in the 1960s as disturbed, immersed in nightmarish dreams and close to madness; it also discusses the genetic and neurological vulnerabilities which induced the psychosis and the social response that converted it into a chronic illness.
To examine trends in effective medical treatment coverage for hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidaemia in Japan, using a metric to assess effective coverage of health interventions derived from a health system performance assessment framework.
We obtained cross-sectional data for 96,863 individuals aged 40-74 years from the 15 annual Japanese National Health and Nutrition Surveys (2003-2017). We defined treatment need for hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidaemia as biomarkers equal to or greater than diagnostic thresholds or medication use. For individuals needing treatment, we conducted nearest-neighbour matching to estimate treatment effects and effective coverage, defined as the fraction of potential reductions in biomarkers actually achieved in treated individuals by medications.
The age-standardized prevalence of treatment need for hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidaemia remained around 40%, 7% and 33%, respectively, in 2003-2017. Fulvestrant purchase Average treatment effects for those treated in 2013-2017 were 14.8 nd antidiabetic drugs.
Mongolian populations are widely distributed geographically, showing abundant ethnic diversity with geographic and tribal differences.
To infer the genetic substructure, admixture and ancient genetic sources of Mongolians together with Kazakhs.
We genotyped more than 690,000 genome-wide SNPs from 33 Mongolian and Chinese Kazakh individuals and compared these with both ancient and present-day Eurasian populations using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), ADMIXTURE,
-IBD,
statistics,
and
.
We found genetic substructures within Mongolians corresponding to Ölöd, Chahar, and Inner Mongolian clusters, which was consistent with tribe classifications. Mongolian and Kazakh groups derived about 6-40% of West Eurasian related ancestry, most likely from Bronze Age Steppe populations. The East Asian related ancestry in Mongolian and Kazakh groups was well represented by the Neolithic DevilsCave related nomadic lineage, comprising 42-64% of studied groups. We also detected 10-51% of Han Chinese related ancestry in Mongolian and Kazakh groups, especially in Inner Mongolians.
