Suggestions are made for this case to make a way forward, especially re-examination of relevant fungarium collections to reach a consensus to stabilize the use of the name.One of the largest releases of radioactive contamination in history occurred at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP). Although the accident happened in 2011, questions still persist regarding its ecological impacts. For example, relatively little is known about radiocesium accumulation in snakes, despite their high trophic status, limited home range sizes, and close association with soil where many radionuclides accumulate. This study presents one of the most comprehensive radioecological studies of snakes published to date using a combination of whole-body radiocesium analyses, GPS transmitters, and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimeters. The objectives were to 1) quantify whole-body radiocesium activity concentrations and internal dose rates among several common species of snakes within and around the Fukushima Exclusion Zone (FEZ), 2) determine effects of species, sex, and body size on radiocesium activity concentrations, 3) measure external dose rates using GPS-coupled dosimetas.Objective New-onset diabetes is an important sequela of acute pancreatitis, but there are no biomarkers to differentiate it from the much more common type 2 diabetes. The objective was to investigate whether postprandial circulating levels of gut hormones can serve this purpose. Methods This was a case-control study nested into a prospective longitudinal cohort study that included 42 insulin-naive cases with new-onset prediabetes/diabetes after acute pancreatitis (NODAP) and prediabetes/diabetes followed by acute pancreatitis (T2D-AP), sex matched with 21 healthy controls. All individuals underwent a standardized mixed-meal test, and blood samples were assayed for gut hormones (glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide, glucagon-like peptide-1, oxyntomodulin, and peptide YY). Analysis of variance and linear regression analysis were conducted in unadjusted and adjusted models (accounting for age, homeostatic model assessment of β-cell function, and magnetic resonance imaging-derived body fat composition). Results Oxyntomodulin levels were significantly lower in NODAP compared with T2D-AP and healthy controls (P = 0.027 and P = 0.001, respectively, in the most adjusted model). Glucagon-like peptide-1 and peptide YY were significantly lower in NODAP compared with T2D-AP (P = 0.001 and P = 0.014, respectively, in the most adjusted model) but not compared with healthy controls (P = 1.000 and P = 0.265, respectively, in the most adjusted model). Glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide levels were not significantly different between NODAP and T2D-AP. Discussion Oxyntomodulin is a promising biomarker to guide the differential diagnosis of new-onset diabetes after acute pancreatitis. However, external validation studies are warranted before it can be recommended for routine use in clinical practice.Carbonaceous materials are soil conditioners that affect nitrogen cycles. However, how carbonaceous materials influence nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) is yet unclear. In this study, we investigated the NOB community and its potential activities under different treatments (control, biochar, straw, limestone, biochar + limestone, and straw + limestone) in an Alfisol, a type of arable soil depleted in calcium carbonate but enriched in aluminum- and iron-bearing minerals. Treatments with limestone increased soil pH, and straw inputs caused an increment of available potassium (AK). Ammonia (NH4+) was inversely changed under the straw and biochar + limestone amendments. None of the treatments significantly impacted the abundance of Nitrobacter (nxrA) or the potential nitrite oxidation activity (PNO). The abundance of Nitrospira (nxrB) increased in the biochar + limestone-treated samples and was significantly correlated with PNO, pH, and AK. High-throughput sequencing results showed that the α-diversity of NOB did not change in response to the treatments. The dominant Nitrobacter OTUs were affiliated within the Clusters 3, 4, 8, and 9 (a new cluster named in this study), while those of Nitrospira were in the lineage II and Namibian soil cluster 2. The limited compositional variation for Nitrobacter was explained by pH, and that for Nitrospira by pH, TN, and NH4+. Among all available data in this study, the richness of Nitrospira was the most important predictor (73%) for PNO. Therefore, we assumed that the community of nitrite oxidizers (Nitrospira) could be relatively redundant in function, supported by the observation that the carbonaceous inputs did not impact either the potential activity or the α-diversity but did affect the abundance and community composition.MoS2 films as an excellent solid lubricating film can significantly decrease the friction and adhesion of nanoelectromechanical system. Atomic layer deposition (ALD) as a surface controlled method provides a flexible way to apply MoS2 to complex surfaces. In the work, the MoS2 film deposited by ALD on the substrates with plasma-assisted process is used to study controlled friction. Firstly, layer-controlled MoS2 films were fabricated by ALD from 1 to 5 layers. WZ811 The friction is decreasing as the number of layers increased. Furthermore, the average friction force of MoS2 deposited on Al2O3 substrates treated by plasma for 10 s with 1 ALD cycle has the lowest value. The functional groups on the substrate surface can be obtained by plasma treatment, which can control the growth of the first layer of MoS2 in ALD so that the friction characteristics of monolayer MoS2 can be controlled. Finally, the effect of plasma treatment on ALD growth at the intermediate stage of MoS2 is relatively weak. Only the monolayer MoS2 treated by plasma can affect the growth of MoS2 by ALD.
