r, combined with a lack of legal preparedness (the capacity to use law effectively) among governmental officials, impeded timely and effective actions to mitigate or avert the crisis. The emergency manager's virtually unfettered legal authority in Flint exacerbated the existing complexity and deprived residents of a democratically accountable local government. Conclusions Our analysis reveals flaws in both the legal structure and how the laws were implemented that simultaneously failed to stop and substantially exacerbated the crisis. Policymakers need to examine the legal framework in their jurisdictions and take appropriate steps to avoid similar disasters. Addressing the implementation failures, including legal preparedness, should likewise be a priority for preventing future similar crises. © 2020 Milbank Memorial Fund.We introduce the principle and applications of one-photon absorption (OPA) and two-photon absorption (TPA) controlled by external electric fields. The physical mechanism of OPA and TPA are firstly introduced, which can visually promote thoroughly understanding of principle and physical analysis. Secondly, the applications of different molecules in OPA and TPA with and without external electric field are introduced in detail. The effect of the external electric field on the charge transfer during the absorption process is also exemplified. Furthermore, the external electric field on the molecular orbital wave function is visualized through the charge transfer process in the excited state transitions. The purpose of this review is to deepen the understanding of the types of charge transfer under linear and non-linear absorption in different systems. © 2020 The Chemical Society of Japan & Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. METHODS Numeric test scores were drawn from summative IDS and ADK assessments undertaken by BDS students spanning six academic years (2013-14 to 2018-19) for two cohorts (2013 and 2014). The data included a total of 13 test scores for each cohort with four IDS tests, taken in Years 1 and 2, and nine ADK tests taken in Years 3, 4 and 5. selleck chemicals RESULTS The sample included 120 students across both cohorts with 65 females (54%) and 55 males (46%). The correlation coefficients between the successive tests and the combinations of IDS and ADK scores were positive, all being greater than 0.48, and all being significantly correlated (P less then .001). Regarding correlation between standardised averages across all IDS tests and all ADK tests, performance remained significantly correlated (2013 cohort r (53) = .667, P less then .001; 2014 cohort r (50) = .700, P less then .001). CONCLUSIONS The results of this study show that the students' knowledge of basic sciences correlates with their applied dental knowledge and may offer a predictive value. These findings may be attributed to a PBL curriculum and student-led learning at our school. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons A/S. SETTING AND SAMPLE POPULATION Both the bone and the tooth were considered as rigid bodies, and the PDL was modelled as a paraboloid with different geometric dimensions and material properties. MATERIALS AND METHODS To achieve this goal, a horizontal force of 1 N was applied in the CR location and the stress and strain distribution and tooth displacement were quantified. Locations of CR were estimated through iterative finite element procedure. RESULTS It was predicted that the position of CR is in the range of 34%-39% of the root length, slightly higher than one-third of the root length reported in the literature. The geometrical dimensions of the PDL had no significant effect on the position of CR, especially in the non-linear material model of the PDL, while the initial displacement of the tooth was found to be highly dependent on the geometrical and mechanical properties of the PDL. CONCLUSION The simplified PDL modelling approach with non-linear material behaviour can be suggested for the estimation of initial tooth movement for individual clinical applications without the use of advanced 3D scans. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons A/S. In the general population, the venous thrombosis risk is 2-4 fold increased in non-0 individuals, likely because of their higher von Willebrand factor (VWF) and factor VIII (FVIII) levels. In cirrhotics, VWF and FVIII are markedly increased. This article is protected by copyright. Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) have rarely been reported. The aim of this study is to objectively assess LUTS in patients with LOPD for the first time using urodynamic studies and to determine differences between LOPD patients with and without LUTS. METHODS Eighteen patients with LOPD were recruited, of whom seven patients (38.9%) reported LUTS (both voiding and storage symptoms). Six of these patients underwent urodynamic studies. Medical histories and motor function tests were compared between the 7 patients with LUTS and the 11 patients without LUTS. The Student t test was used to determine an association between the two cohorts. RESULTS In the seven LOPD patients with LUTS urodynamics revealed neurogenic dysfunction, underactive detrusor, and bladder outlet obstruction. These patients had suffered from clinical symptoms for a longer period of time before starting enzyme replacement therapy (P = .
