Langendorff-perfused Scn5a1798insD/+ hearts showed prolonged AV-conduction compared to wild type (WT) without changes in atrial and His-ventricular (HV) conduction. The late sodium current (INa,L) inhibitor ranolazine (RAN) normalized AV-conduction in Scn5a1798insD/+ mice, likely by preventing the mutation-induced increase in intracellular sodium ([Na+]i) and calcium ([Ca2+]i) concentrations. Indeed, further enhancement of [Na+]i and [Ca2+]i by the Na+/K+-ATPase inhibitor ouabain caused excessive increase in AV-conduction time in Sr findings indicate a detrimental role for enhanced INa,L and consequent calcium dysregulation on AV-conduction in Scn5a1798insD/+ mice, providing evidence for a functional mechanism underlying AV-conduction disturbances secondary to gain-of-function SCN5A mutations.

In this study, we aimed to conduct a systematic in-depth assessment of factors at the national, community, household, and individual levels to determine the key enablers of Senegal's success in reducing stunting in children <5 y old between 1992/93 and 2017.

A mixed methods approach was implemented, comprising quantitative data analysis, a systematic literature review, creation of a timeline of nutrition-related programs, and qualitative interviews with national and regional stakeholders and mothers in communities. Demographic and Health Surveys and Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys were used to explore stunting inequalities and factors related to the change in height-for-age z-score (HAZ) using difference-in-difference linear regression and the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition method.

Population-wide gains in average child HAZ and stunting prevalence have occurred from 1992/ements in the availability of health services and maternal education, access to piped water and sanitation facilities, and poverty reduction. Further efforts in the health, water and sanitation, and agriculture sectors will support continued success.

Higher intakes of whole grains and dietary fiber have been associated with lower risk of insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, and inflammation, which are known predisposing factors for cancer.

Because the evidence of association with bladder cancer (BC) is limited, we aimed to assess associations with BC risk for intakes of whole grains, refined grains, and dietary fiber.

We pooled individual data from 574,726 participants in 13 cohort studies, 3214 of whom developed incident BC. HRs, with corresponding 95% CIs, were estimated using Cox regression models stratified on cohort. Dose-response relations were examined using fractional polynomial regression models.

We found that higher intake of total whole grain was associated with lower risk of BC (comparing highest with lowest intake tertile HR 0.87; 95% CI 0.77, 0.98; HR per 1-SD increment 0.95; 95% CI 0.91, 0.99; P for trend 0.023). No association was observed for intake of total refined grain. Intake of total dietary fiber was also inversely associated with BC risk (comparing highest with lowest intake tertile HR 0.
