Our findings suggest that in addition to expanded coverage, policies need to tackle other barriers to accessing dental care to improve population oral health.After George Floyd's killing, a physician reflects on how the health effects of racism become embodied for her and other Black Americans.With the rise in the share of privately insured patients covered by high-deductible health plans (HDHPs), understanding sociodemographic trends in the uptake of health savings accounts (HSAs) is increasingly important, as HSAs may help offset the higher up-front costs of care in HDHPs. We used nationally representative data from the National Health Interview Survey from the period 2007-18 to examine trends in HDHP enrollment and HSA participation among privately insured adults by income level and race/ethnicity. Our findings show a substantial increase in HDHP enrollment across all racial/ethnic and income groups from 2007 to 2018. However, Black, Hispanic, and low-income HDHP enrollees were significantly less likely than their White and higher-income counterparts to participate in HSAs, and these gaps increased over time. This means that the HDHP enrollees most likely to benefit from the potential financial protection of HSAs were the least likely to have them. If these trends persist, racial/ethnic and income-based disparities in cost-related barriers to care may widen.The period before pregnancy is critically important for the health of a woman and her infant, yet not all women have access to health insurance during this time. We evaluated whether increased access to health insurance under the Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansions affected ten preconception health indicators, including the prevalence of chronic conditions and health behaviors, birth control use and pregnancy intention, and receipt of preconception health services. By comparing changes in outcomes for low-income women in expansion and nonexpansion states, we document greater preconception health counseling, prepregnancy folic acid intake, and postpartum use of effective birth control methods among low-income women associated with Medicaid expansion. We do not find evidence of changes on the other preconception health indicators examined. Our findings indicate that expanding Medicaid led to detectable improvements on a subset of preconception health measures.Infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 results in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which was declared an official pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. A comprehensive understanding of the diagnostic imaging hallmarks, imaging features, multisystem involvement, and evolution of imaging findings is essential for effective patient management and treatment. In part 1 of this article, the authors described the viral pathogenesis, diagnostic imaging hallmarks, and manifestations of the pulmonary and peripheral and central vascular systems of COVID-19. In part 2 of this article, the authors focus on the key imaging features of the varied pathologic manifestations of COVID-19, involving the cardiac, neurologic, abdominal, dermatologic and ocular, and musculoskeletal systems, as well as the pediatric and pregnancy-related manifestations of the virus. Neuroimaging findings of PMDs are variable, ranging from unremarkable and nonspecific to florid and highly suggestive. An overview of PMDs, including a synopsis of the basic genetic concepts, main clinical symptoms, and neuropathologic features, is presented. In addition, eight of the most common PMDs that have a characteristic imaging phenotype in children are reviewed in detail. Articles in this section are published solely online and are linked to the original article.Traumatic wounds and lacerations are a common reason for patients to present to emergency departments, with retained foreign bodies (FBs) accounting for 7%-15% of cases, particularly those involving the extremities. These retained materials result in a granulomatous tissue response known as an FB reaction, a pathologic attempt to isolate the FB from the host. The most common FB materials are glass, metal, and wood, but other compositions can also be found, such as plastic and animal-derived materials. Clinical history, physical examination, and wound exploration are essential in investigation of retained material but are not sufficient to exclude an FB, and additional investigation is required. Imaging evaluation is a useful tool to help depict and locate an FB, assess possible complications, and guide removal. Conventional radiography, the first-line method in this scenario, is a widely available low-cost depiction method that has good sensitivity for depicting FBs. this website If the retained material is not depicted at conventional radiography, US can be performed. US is highly sensitive in depicting both radiolucent and radiopaque FBs in superficial locations. For deeper objects, CT may be necessary. MRI is the best imaging modality to delineate local soft-tissue and osseous complications. Retained FBs can result in early and delayed complications, with infection being the most frequent complication. To avoid preventable morbidities related to FBs, radiologists should be familiar with imaging findings and provide essential information to help the attending physician treat each patient.
