This information is ecologically important, because many species play important roles in local ecosystems as predators, herbivores, seed dispersers, and disease vectors. Additionally, many of the larger wildlife species detected by camera traps are economically important through hunting, trapping, or ecotourism. Here we present a data set of camera-trap surveys from 6,043 locations across all 100 counties of North Carolina, USA from 2009 to 2019. These data come from 26 survey initiatives and contain 215,108 records of 36 mammal species and three species of terrestrial birds. This large data set increases the geographical distribution data for these 39 mammal and bird species by >500% over what is available for North Carolina in the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). These data can be used to conduct inquiries about species, populations, communities, or ecosystems, and to produce useful information on wildlife behavior, distribution, and interactions. To investigate the association between G-CSF preparations (filgrastim, nartograstim, lenograstim, and pegfilgrastim) available in Japan and thrombocytopenia in patients treated with antineoplastic agents, a nested case-control study was conducted using the Medical Information Database NETwork (MID-NET®) with the cohort of the Japanese population taking antineoplastic agents between 2009 and 2018. A case of thrombocytopenia was defined as a patient who had decreased platelet counts ( less then 50,000/mm3 ). We identified a maximum of 10 controls for each case matched on the index date. Adjusted odds ratios (aORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of thrombocytopenia for the use of G-CSF preparations compared with nonuse were estimated using conditional logistic regression. From the cohort in which 33,124 patients were included, 733 cases and 5,592 controls were identified. Compared with the nonuse of G-CSF preparations, the use of any G-CSF preparations increased the risk of thrombocytopenia (aOR 5.7, 95% CI 4.3-7.5). More detailed analysis showed that a distinctive increased risk was observed when pegfilgrastim was prescribed at 2-7 days before the index date (aOR 7.4 95% CI 2.0-28.1). Associations of the other G-CSF preparations with thrombocytopenia were unclear due to the inconsistent results among different analyses. A significantly increased risk of thrombocytopenia associated with pegfilgrastim was identified, leading to a revision of precautions in the package inserts of pegfilgrastim as a regulatory safety action.
The Food and Drug Administration has cleared a probe-based near-infrared autofluorescence (NIRAF) detection system called PTeye™ as an adjunct tool for label-free intraoperative parathyroid gland (PG) identification. Since PTeye™ has been investigated only in a "blinded" manner to date, this study describes the preliminary impressions of PTeye™ when used by surgeons without being blinded to the device output.

Patients undergoing thyroid and parathyroid procedures were prospectively recruited. Target tissues were intraoperatively assessed with PTeye™. The surgeon's confidence in PG identification was recorded concomitantly with NIRAF parameters that were output in real-time from PTeye™.

A retrospective review of prospectively collected data on 83 patients was performed. PTeye™ was used for interrogating 336 target tissues in 46 parathyroid and 37 thyroid procedures. PTeye™ yielded an overall accuracy of 94.3% with a positive predictive value of 93.0% and a negative predictive value of 100%. An increase in confidence for intraoperative PG identification with PTeye™ was observed by all three participating high-volume surgeons, irrespective of their level of accrued surgical experience.

Despite widespread use, the impact of minocycline hydrochloride microspheres on the shifts of oral bacterial species resistant to minocycline remains unknown. This study aimed at examining the percentage and taxonomy of minocycline-resistant isolates in saliva and subgingival plaque samples before and after minocycline microspheres application in periodontitis patients during maintenance.

Patients received supra- and sub-gingival debridement with (test) or without (control) minocycline microspheres application to sites with probing depth>4mm and were clinically monitored at baseline, 1, 3, and 6 months. Samples were collected at baseline, 1 and 6 months and analyzed via cultivation with or without 4μg/mL minocycline. Percentage of resistant strains was determined by colony counting and taxonomy by checkerboard DNA-DNA hybridization. Significant clinical changes were sought with the Mann-Whitney test and differences in percentage of resistant isolates with the Friedman and Mann-Whitney tests.

Groups showed similar clinical improvements.
