Happiness was measured using the Japanese version of the subjective happiness scale (SHS); a sense of fulfillment was assessed using a visual analogue scale. Serum FA concentrations were measured. A partial correlation test and a regression model were applied. Results The SHS scores showed significantly positive correlations with a sense of fulfillment, DHA% and EPA% (p less then 0.05, less then 0.05 and less then 0.005, respectively), after controlling for age, BMI, menopause, snacking habits and leisure-time physical activities. A sense of fulfillment was significantly negatively correlated with α-linoleic acid%, and positively correlated with DHA% and EPA% (p less then 0.05, less then 0.05 and less then 0.005, respectively), after controlling for the confounders. A regression model showed that a sense of fulfillment, EPA, and not stopping menstruation explained happiness (standardised beta, B = 0.18, p less then 0.05; B = 0.24, p less then 0.01; and B = 0.32, and p less then 0.05, respectively), whereas age, BMI and snacking habits could not. Simultaneously, a regression model could not explain the association between DHA and happiness. Conclusion Happiness was related with serum EPA%, a sense of fulfillment, and premenopause.Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the cause of the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. A human-specific SVA in the promoter region of the gene leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains 2 (LRIG2), which we termed SVA_LRIG2, is a common retrotransposon insertion polymorphism (RIP), defined as an element which is polymorphic for its presence or absence in the genome. We hypothesised that this RIP might be associated with differential levels of expression of LRIG2. The RIP genotype of SVA_LRIG2 was determined in a subset of frontal cortex DNA samples from the North American Brain Expression Consortium (NABEC) cohort and was imputed for a larger set of that cohort. Utilising available frontal cortex total RNA-seq and CpG methylation data for this cohort, we observed that increased allele dosage of SVA_LRIG2 was non-significantly associated with a decrease in transcription from the region and significantly associated with increased methylation of the CpG probe nearest to SVA_LRIG2, i.e., SVA_LRIG2 is a significant methylation quantitative trait loci (mQTL) at the LRIG2 locus. Our goal was to identify bioindicators of soil health from microbes that were responsive to CC (three levels) and tillage (chisel tillage, no-till) treatments after five years under field conditions. We used rRNA gene-based analysis via Illumina HiSeq2500 technology with QIIME 2.0 processing to characterize the microbial communities. Our results indicated that CC and tillage differentially changed the relative abundances (RAs) of the copiotrophic and oligotrophic guilds. Corn-soybean rotations with legume-grass CC increased the RA of copiotrophic decomposers more than rotations with grass CC, whereas rotations with only bare fallows favored stress-tolerant oligotrophs, including nitrifiers and denitrifiers. Unlike bacteria, fewer indicator fungi and archaea were detected; fungi were poorly identified, and their responses were inconsistent, while the archaea RA increased under bare fallow treatments. This is primary information that allows for understanding the potential for managing the soil community compositions using cover crops to reduce nutrient losses to the environment.
