In primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), the TM is the most likely region for increased AH outflow resistance. Theoretically, removal of the TM can improve the AH outflow; hence, glaucoma specialists focus on microsurgical dissection of the TM. In this review, we analyzed the available literature to examine SC-related microsurgical modalities based on the histopathological proofs of the localization of resistance of the AH outflow. First, we considered the role, anatomy, and physiology of the TM and SC. We referred to studies that describe the mechanisms and potential pathways, related to increased intraocular pressure in the POAG, that are targeted using the SC-related microsurgical interventions. Next, we took a closer look at the gonioscopic tools necessary for an ab-interno approach and explored incision canal surgery ab-interno trabeculectomy using different instrumentation (Trabectome®, Kahook Dual Blade) and variations of the technique. Thereafter, we discussed ab-interno canaloplasty, explaining the technique and reviewing its effectiveness. Finally, we presented the scope for future research in the field. Although the iStent also targets SC by bypassing it, this device has been reviewed extensively elsewhere.

Y402H polymorphisms with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) for the first time in an Indonesian population.

Our case-control study involved 104 nAMD and 100 control subjects. AMD diagnosis was evaluated by retinal specialists based on color fundus photography and optical coherence tomography. The polymorphisms on
Y402H and
A69S were analyzed by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP), whereas
del443ins54 was evaluated by PCR-based assay.

Significant allelic associations with nAMD were detected on all polymorphisms (P<0.05), with stronger association with the
A69S (OR 3.13; 95% CI 2.08-4.71; P<0.001) and
del443ins54 (OR 3.28; 95% CI 2.17-4.95; P<0.001) polymorphisms than with
Y402H (OR 2.08; 95% CI 1.08-3.99; P=0.028). Genotype analysis showed a statistical difference between nAMD and the control group for all polymorphisms (P<0.05). However, the association with nAMD was weaker for
Y402H (P=0.043) than for
A69S and
del443ins54 (P<0.001). A significant interaction between
A69S and hypertension was documented (OR 9.53; 95% CI 3.61-25.1; P<0.001).

Our findings indicate that
A69S and
del443ins54 polymorphisms are strongly associated with the risk of nAMD for the first time in an Indonesian population. The risk of nAMD increased when the presence of risk alleles from
A69S was combined with the presence of hypertension.

There is conflicting data on the effectiveness of the currently recommended endoscopic surveillance strategy in non-dysplastic BE patients. We reviewed the literature to evaluate the (cost) effectiveness of the current surveillance strategy. We also reviewed critical strategies and new technologies which could improve dysplasia detection.

Adherence to the current EGD surveillance guidelines is suboptimal with high rates of missed dysplasia/EAC. The influence of surveillance on EAC mortality appears modest. Careful cleansing, inspection and sampling of the BE mucosa using high resolution while light and (electronic) chromoendoscopy is critical. Newer sampling techniques coupled with computer aided diagnosis and emerging imaging technologies have shown promise in improving dysplasia detection. Personalized surveillance with risk stratification based on risk factors for progression may be on the horizon.

The socialization goals of immigrant parents in the United States for their children reflect the childrearing priorities of both their culture of origin and the mainstream culture. These goals, which guide parenting, likely have shared and unique characteristics with other immigrant groups from the same geographical region of origin. The current study aimed to explore and compare the socialization goals of Chinese and Korean immigrant mothers in the United States; the role of child gender in mothers' socialization goals was also investigated.

Ninety-six Chinese (

= 37.60) and 97 Korean immigrant mothers (

= 35.87) with preschool-age children living in the United States were interviewed regarding their socialization goals. The qualitative interview transcripts were coded by trained research assistants.

Appropriate instructional strategies are needed to facilitate their acquisition and maintenance of musculoskeletal fitness. In this study, three adults with moderate ID, aged 19-20 years, were selected to evaluate the effects of a multi-component treatment package that included a video-enhanced system of least-to-most prompts (LMP) on their acquisition of two muscle-strengthening machine exercises. Results from a multiple-baseline-across-participants single-subject design show substantive gains in correct and independent performance of steps in the two exercises during the treatment condition. The improved performance in both exercises was maintained one week and two weeks after the last treatment session and appeared to have extended to a large fitness room.
