10 Inspirational Graphics About Item Upgrading
World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.

For example an item with the upgrade template ending in % will suffer 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them; the item must be at the very least upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may have a prefix or suffix, modifying the name of the equipment with the upgrade (for examplethe "Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of the equipment using the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can alter the attack or defence characteristics of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals per.

The player is able to have up to five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-level version of the item will be available during the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear, even in the event that they don't know what will be improved following a reset.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process may be costly and there is a high possibility that the item will be obsolete or even break when it fails. A failed upgrade will cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Certain upgrades also provide a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to improve the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the power of all nodes in their radius as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels whenever you can.

It is commonplace to see in the endgame that placing Glyphs is the most effective method to upgrade your gear. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded directly to level 15 and provide a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes much faster.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values it can improve a statistic by, and the value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with another Glyph with the same rank, or a higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of an Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools as well as through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

When you have the desired Glyphs You will have to put them on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus that boosts the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats based on the Glyph.

Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, therefore it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. For instance an Druid should try to position their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes but also consider placing them near critical damage nodes too.

Leveling

The item upgrade system allows players to boost the stats of specific items by inserting upgraded components. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level of item requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab of crafting tables. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level up the item. Once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrades the equipment they have, the base item is replaced by an item that is new. This means that the same armor piece will get an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This can be a downside since the item may be more expensive even if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be done regularly, as it can waste a lot of resources.

Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their equipment. A good example of this is Dolphin's Gift, which gives a buff when the player repeatedly enters and exits water (or does not swim as a dolphin). It is possible to upgrade it several times, each time increasing the max roll by an increment of 10. This item is extremely valuable in PvP. A perfectly rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of a unupgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to boost the level of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets over ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces increase its base defense and weapon upgrades items increase their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.

Each item can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception of hero gear which can be upgraded up to eight times. Each each time you upgrade an item it has the chance to fail. The rate of failure increases as you go over the maximum number of upgrades. Failures can cause the item to go back to its original state, requiring the player to spend more materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.

If an item fails to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition the item will be deducted any gained bonuses such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or reload speed). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that, should a weapon gain an increase in crit chance the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the item definition and the value is computed each time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and number of upgrade slots. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a standard equipment item might have 5 upgrades, each costing 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will have an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items may have different upgrade requirements from normal equipment. For example, they may need less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. Whatever the case, players will have to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each equipment upgrade will require the use of different upgrade ingredients.
