We present a novel association of acute appendicitis in children infected with SARS-CoV-2 and postulate that it may represent a postinfectious hyperinflammatory complication of SARS-CoV-2 infection occurring 2 weeks after the early manifestation of acute pneumonia disease in children.
To describe epidemiology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) data of bacteria causing invasive infections in Norwegian children (0-18 years).
Population-based observational study using prospectively collected AST data from the Norwegian Surveillance System of Antimicrobial Resistance from 2013 to 2017. We included all clinically relevant bacterial isolates (blood and cerebrospinal fluid), and compared incidence of invasive infections and AST data in isolates from children and adults.
We included 1173 isolates from children and 44,561 isolates from adults. Staphylococcus aureus accounted for 220/477 (46.2%, 95% CI 41.6-50.7) of all isolates in schoolchildren (6-18 years). Compared with Streptococcus pneumonia isolates from adults (N = 2674), we observed higher nonsusceptibility rates to penicillin in isolates from children (N = 151), 11.9% versus 5.8%, P < 0.01; also higher resistance rates to erythromycin (11.3% vs. 4.9%, P < 0.01), clindamycin (9.3% vs. 3.6%, P < 0.001), and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (17.9% vs. 6.4%, P < 0.001). Compared with Escherichia coli isolates in adults (N = 9073), we found lower rates of ESBL in isolates from children (N = 212), 2.4% versus 6.4%, P < 0.05.
The study indicates the importance of microbiologic surveillance strategies in children and highlights the need for pediatric AST data. The high rates of nonsusceptibility to commonly used antibiotics among S. pneumoniae in children and the high burden of invasive S. aureus infections in schoolchildren calls for modifications of Norwegian guidelines.

Define the seroprevalence and risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in Arapahoe County, Colorado first responders (eg, law enforcement, human services, fire departments).
Two hundred sixty four first responders were enrolled June to July 2020. SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity was defined as detection of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies to both spike receptor binding domain and nucleocapsid in venous blood by validated enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We compared risk factors for being seropositive versus seronegative.
4% (11/264) were SARS-CoV-2 seropositive. Seropositive participants were significantly more likely to have lung disease (% seropositive, % seronegative; P-value) (36%, 8%; P = 0.01), prior SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 testing (36%, 8%; P ≤ 0.01), a prior positive result (18%, less than 1%), and to believe they previously had COVID-19 (64%, 15%; P < 0.01). Only 15% of those believing they had COVID-19 had anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.

Leadership styles can influence subordinates' health. We investigated how the gene encoding the Catechol-O-Methyltransferase (COMT) enzyme (ie, COMT rs4680 Val158Met) influenced effects of abusive supervision and transformational leadership on subordinates' headache and neck pain.
Multiple group structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to test associations of leadership with subordinates' pain 6 months after in a representative sample of the Norwegian working population (n = 996). Genotyping was performed by TaqMan technology.
Abusive supervision was associated with increased risk, and transformational leadership with decreased risk, of headache and neck pain. Both leadership styles exhibited more pronounced effects in individuals with the Met/Met genotype.

We conducted an observational study among people exposed to various degree of infectious risk. Data were collected with a self-administered online questionnaire.

Assessment of the nasal cytology in revealing early nasal mucosa alteration of workers exposed to benzene.
Nasal cytology was compared among non-exposed and exposed workers to benzene. A comparison of the two groups was performed considering rhino-cytological features.
In the exposed group neutrophils count range was 14 to 70, compared to 2 to 5 in control group. Ciliated cells ratio range was respectively 0.28 to 2.8 and 0.25 to 0.31. In subjects exposed to benzene >10 years, nasal mucosa showed an inflammatory status and an ongoing mucipar metaplasia, defined by an alteration of mucipar/ciliated cells ratio.
Nasal cytology may be a useful research tool for the health surveillance of workers exposed to benzene and may be applied to study the effects of other upper airways chemicals irritants.
