This paper explores and describes the current initiatives, barriers, and opportunities for formal, non-formal, and informal networked learning experiences using social media in Latin America. It focuses on networked learning initiatives such as the use of institutional social media accounts, educational hashtags, social media in the classroom, educational channels via video hosting platforms, and government established networked learning programs for connected classrooms. The same multiplicity, diversity, and heterogenicity that represent the culture, languages, and socio-economic status of the people of Latin America also characterize the vast mixture of networked learning initiatives across the region. Potential barriers (i.e., the digital divide, Internet filtering policies, lack of research) and opportunities for implementation (i.e., networked learning educational reforms, mobile learning technology, and social media ethical considerations) are explored. The paper concludes with recommendations that policymakers and education leaders in Latin America should keep in mind to engage in fruitful networked learning initiatives.The Every Student Succeeds Act supports personalized learning (PL) to close achievement gaps of diverse K-12 learners in the United States. Implementing PL into a classroom entails a paradigm change of the educational system. However, it is demanding to transform traditional practice into a personalized one under the pressure of the annual standardized testing while it is unclear which PL approaches are more likely to result in better academic outcomes than others. Using national survey data of ELA teachers in identified learner-centered schools, this study compared high and low-performing learner-centered schools (determined by their standardized test results) in terms of their use of five PL features (personalized learning plan, competency-based student progress, criterion-referenced assessment, project- or problem-based learning, and multi-year mentoring) and their use of technology for the four functions of planning, learning, assessment, and recordkeeping. Generally, teachers in high-performing schools implemented PL more thoroughly and utilized technology for more functions than those in low-performing schools. Teachers in high-performing schools more frequently considered career goals when creating personal learning plans, shared the project outcomes with the community, and assessed non-academic outcomes. They stayed longer with the same students and developed close relationships with more students. Also, they more frequently used technology for sharing resources and reported having a more powerful technology system than those in low-performing schools. This study informs educators, administrators, and researchers of which PL approaches and technology uses are more likely to result in better academic outcomes measured by standardized assessments.At the time of COVID-19 coronavirus pandemia, the Nobel Prize of Physiology or Medicine 2020 was awarded jointly to three researchers Harvey J. Fistula and intraabdominal fistula are common complications of Crohn's disease (CD), but complex rectal fistula with abscess formation is rare. Tumor necrosis factor antagonists combined with percutaneous drainage or surgical intervention is optimal treatment for fistulizing CD with intraabdominal abscess. There is no study show the efficacy of vedolizumab in such complicated condition.

To compare the bowel cleansing efficacy of 32-tablet sodium phosphate (Quiklean
) with 2-L polyethylene glycol (PEG)/bisacodyl (Klean-Prep/ Dulcolax
) under identical dietary recommendations.

This multicenter, randomized, parallel-group, noninferiority clinical trial enrolled 472 outpatients, randomized 456 subjects, and scheduled 442 subjects to undergo colonoscopy (Quiklean
= 222 and Klean-Prep/Dulcolax
= 220). After bowel preparation, a colonoscopist performed the colonoscopy with video recorded for rating. The primary efficacy endpoint was the bowel cleansing quality using the Aronchick Scale. The secondary endpoints were the bowel cleansing efficacy of three colon segments, tolerability and acceptability, safety using the Ottawa bowel preparation scale, questionnaires by subjectstudes toward colonoscopies and participation rates.

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) remains an enormous challenge in patients who undergo transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) implantation. The preoperative indocyanine green retention rate at 15 min (ICG-R15), as one of the liver function assessment tools, has been developed as a prognostic indicator in patients undergoing surgery, but there are limited data on its role in TIPS.

To determine whether the ICG-R15 can be used for prediction of post-TIPS HE in decompensated cirrhosis patients with portal hypertension (PHT) and compare the clinical value of ICG-R15, Child-Pugh score (CPS), and model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score in predicting post-TIPS HE with PHT.

This retrospective study included 195 patients with PHT who underwent elective TIPS at Beijing Shijitan Hospital from January 2018 to June 2019. All patients underwent the ICG-R15 test, CPS evaluation, and MELD scoring 1 wk before TIPS. According to whether they developed HE or not, the patients were divided into two groups HE group and non-HE group.
