Although predictive markers of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-based treatments have been extensively studied, with the exception of programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), most are not widely used in the clinic due to poor effects or defective practicability. The aim of this study was to identify those patients with high baseline serum cholesterol who benefit from ICI-based treatments.

Patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated at Ningbo Medical Center, Li Huili Hospital between August 2017 and December 2019 were enrolled in this retrospective study. The Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST, version 1.1) were used to evaluate the efficacy of the ICI-based treatment. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier survival curves and compared using the log rank test. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted using the logistic regression analysis and Cox proportional hazards model. A receiver operating characterbased treatment, and hence it is a promising prognostic indicator for ICI-based treatment of NSCLC.
The baseline serum cholesterol level is predictive of a clinical benefit for advanced NSCLC patients who undergo ICI-based treatment, and hence it is a promising prognostic indicator for ICI-based treatment of NSCLC.
To explore the relationship between venous thromboembolism (VTE) and early mortality (within six months) in Chinese patients with newly diagnosed metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after entering the era of precision treatment.

A cohort of 706 consecutive subjects with newly diagnosed metastatic NSCLC were prospectively observed. Clinical and survival data were recorded over a six-month follow-up period. The predictive factors for the occurrence of VTE and the relationship with early mortality were evaluated through univariate and multivariate analyses.

During the six-month follow-up period, VTE events occurred in 12.2% (86/706) of the enrolled patients. In the multivariate analyses for VTE, an age older than 70 years (vs < 70 sub-distribution hazard radio [SHR], 1.678; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.073-2.600;
=0.022), an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status ≥2 (vs 0/1 SHR, 1.946; 95% CI, 1.277-2.970;
=0.002), and having an
rearrangement (vs non-rearrangement SHR,significantly decreased risk of early mortality in the era of targeted therapy; however, VTE occurrence remained an important predictor for early mortality in metastatic NSCLC patients, especially in patients with EGFR/ALK wild-type genes.
Outcomes after the treatment for unresectable or advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are unsatisfied. We evaluated the therapeutic benefits of a combination therapy strategy for these patients through transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus sorafenib.

In total, 85 patients with HCC classified as intermediate and advanced stage from June 2012 to November 2017 were retrospectively investigated. PD-1/PD-L1 cancer We divided patients into the monotherapy (n=43; TACE alone) and combined therapy (n=42; TACE plus sorafenib) groups.

Compared with the TACE alone group, the TACE plus sorafenib experienced significantly prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) (mean 21 months vs 12 months; P = 0.0005) and overall survival (OS) (mean 32 months vs 21 months; P = 0.0157). The disease control rate (DCR) of TACE plus sorafenib group was 80.95%, which was significantly increased than the TACE alone group (55.81%) (P<0.05), as well as objective response rate (ORR) (23.81% vs 16.28%). Besides, the rates of liver-related AEs and liver failure in the TACE plus sorafenib group were not increased in contrast to TACE alone group, and there were no new safety concerns. To sum up, the superiority of combination therapy with significantly prolonging progression-free and overall survival was observed, meanwhile finding a significant increase in tumor response rate and manageable safety in the combined therapy in contrast to the monotherapy group.

Based on unTACEble progression, the superiority of the combination therapy is that TACE plus sorafenib has been bringing about significantly better outcomes compared with TACE alone for HCC patients.

Increased surgical technology has led broad acceptance endoscopic thyroidectomy and its application in the treatment of thyroid diseases, including thyroid carcinoma. Although the incidence of complications and mortality of thyroid surgery has been significantly reduced, serious complications still occur from time to time. The purpose of this retrospective study is to identify the factors that influence the complications of endoscopic thyroidectomy.

This study was carried out between January 2012 and December 2019, where a total of 630 patients undergoing endoscopic thyroidectomy via the total areola approach were retrospectively evaluated to identify the key influencing factors of complications.

The study established that the common complications included recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (3.33%), superior laryngeal nerve injury (2.54%), hypocalcemia (8.57%), and the incidence of complications was acceptable. Both univariate and multivariate analysis showed that thyroid carcinoma (P = 0.041), operation can prevent and reduce the occurrence of complications.
Differentiation between follicular thyroid carcinomas (FTCs) and follicular thyroid adenomas (FTAs) is difficult and the sonographic features of FTC are not yet fully established. The purpose of this study is to explore the sonographic features of FTC and the value of sonography in differentiating FTCs from FTAs.

A total of 28 pathologically proven FTCs and 53 FTAs in 78 patients who were performed thyroid surgery were included in this retrospective study. The sonographic features of each tumor including an interrupted halo, satellite nodule(s) with or without halo ring, local irregularity of margin and cluster of grapes sign were evaluated. A mode image of FTC halo was built up in our study. The frequencies of the sonographic features were compared by chi-square test or Fisher exact test between FTCs and FTAs. The relative risk of malignancy was assessed by logistic regression analysis.

Logistic regression analysis showed that a thick, irregular and/or interrupted halo with or without satellite nodule(s), hypoechoic or marked hypoechoic echogenicity, a predominantly solid pattern, cluster of grapes sign, micro-or macro-calcifications, rim calcifications correlated with significant increases in relative risk for FTCs (odds ratio 11.
