Variation in structural and magnetic properties with changing valence electron count (VEC) has been studied well in the family of Heusler compounds, while such changes in VEC resulting in half-Heusler (HH) and full-Heusler (FH) composites have not been reported to observe their effect on the magnetic properties. Herein, we have synthesized the composite of HH and FH phases in Ni1+x MnSb (x = 0.0, 0.3, and 0.6) via changing VEC from 22 to 28 in order to investigate the structural and magnetic properties. Interestingly, a transition from half-metallic ferromagnetic to normal ferromagnetic was revealed in Ni1+x MnSb (x = 0.0, 0.3, and 0.6) materials with increasing VEC. The structural investigations of these materials were performed using a X-ray diffraction technique and analyzed by Rietveld Refinement software for all the samples. Rietveld analysis reveals the presence of a significant amount of the NiSb paramagnetic impurity phase in the HH NiMnSb system while in the case of Ni1+x MnSb (x = 0.3 and 0.6), no such impurity phase was observed. HDAC inhibitor Only FH and HH phases in Ni1+x MnSb (x = 0.3 and 0.6) samples were noticed. The magnetic measurement performed on samples employing a vibrating sample magnetometer reveals the ferromagnetic ordering in all samples. A weak hysteresis loop with saturated magnetic moments ∼2.99 and 2.98 μB at room temperature was observed for NiMnSb and Ni1.3MnSb, respectively, while a strong hysteresis loop with lower magnetic moment of 0.88 μB was observed in the Ni1.6MnSb composite. Furthermore, the observed magnetic moments for the composite Ni1.3MnSb have been explained on the basis of the Slater-Pauling rule in relation to VEC.Artificial enzyme mimics have gained considerable attention for use in sensing applications due to their high stability and outstanding catalytic activity. We show that cerium oxide nanosheets (NSs) exhibit triple-enzyme mimetic activity. The oxidase-, peroxidase-, and catalase-like activities of the proposed nanoparticles are demonstrated using both colorimetric and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. On the basis of the excellent catalytic activity of cerium oxide NSs toward hydrogen peroxide, an electrochemical approach for the high-throughput detection of H2O2 in living cells was established. This report presents an analytical microfluidic chip integrated with a cerium oxide NS mimic enzyme for the fabrication of a simple, sensitive, and low-cost electrochemical sensor. Three Au microelectrodes were fabricated on a glass substrate using photolithography, and the working electrode was functionalized using cerium oxide NSs. The operation of this biosensor is based on cerium oxide NSs and presents a high sensitivity over a wide detection range, between 100 nM and 20 mM, with a low detection limit of 20 nM and a high sensitivity threshold of 226.4 μA·cm-2·μM-1. This microfluidic sensor shows a strong response to H2O2, suggesting potential applications in monitoring H2O2 directly secreted from living cells. This sensor chip provides a promising platform for applications in the field of diagnostics and sensing.Semiconductor heterostructures have attracted intensive research attention during the past few years owing to their great potential for energy and environmental remediation related applications. Effective optical absorption and efficient separation of photogenerated charge carriers are among the key factors for achieving high efficiency in a photocatalytic process. This mini-review summarizes state-of-the-art activities in designing nanosemiconductor heterostructures using multifunctional semiconductors for solar-to-hydrogen conversion and degradation of organic pollutants. Various novel design strategies such as semiconductor/graphene heterojunctions including graphene as a semimetal and photosensitizer, semiconductor/ferromagnetic, and semiconductor/ferroelectric nanoheterostructures for enhancing the performance of photocatalytic processes have been discussed. Finally, key challenges and future prospects for designing more efficient photocatalytic materials are briefly outlined.Traumatic brain injury often leads to progressive alterations at the molecular to circuit levels resulting in epilepsy and memory impairments. Ex vivo and in vitro models have provided a powerful platform for investigating the multimodal alteration after trauma. Recent ex vivo analyses using voltage sensitive dye imaging, optogenetics, and glutamate uncaging have revealed circuit abnormalities following in vivo brain injury. In vitro injury models have enabled examination of early and progressive changes in activity while development of three-dimensional organoids derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells have opened novel avenues for injury research. Here, we highlight recent advances in ex vivo and in vitro systems, focusing on their potential for advancing mechanistic understandings, possible limitations, and implications for therapeutics.Central venous stenosis causing elevated intracranial pressure is a rare and potentially reversible cause of blindness in patients undergoing hemodialysis. We present the case of a 69-year-old man with progressive vision loss and raised intracranial pressure that was successfully treated with an innominate vein stent.Introduction Menthol can be added to cigarettes in several ways; these different delivery methods of menthol may lead to changes in sensory attributes, as well as perceived risk and appeal of these products. Methods Using a randomized, controlled study design, 18 current, established menthol smokers were asked to sample Camel Crush and Camel Menthol cigarette products, crushed and uncrushed. Smoking behavior, exhaled carbon monoxide, subjective ratings, and perceived risk measures were assessed for each product. Results Cigarette Evaluation Scale relief of craving scores for participants' preferred brand (mean 5.3, SE 0.3) were significantly higher (p=0.012) than Camel Menthol crushed (mean 4.6, SE 0.3) as were the Sensory Scale satisfaction scores (preferred brand mean 6.9, SE 0.7 compared to Camel Menthol crushed mean 5.1, SE 0.6; p=0.004). In addition, the average Sensory Scale smoke strength scores for participants' preferred brand (mean 6.9, SE 0.5) was also significantly higher than Camel Crush crushed (mean 5.
