World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Depending on the upgrade type it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all the upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be changed in order to upgrade an item.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average item level can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it is able to deal. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller can be done by using the level of the item.
The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its value. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are various theories about how the calculation of an item's level is carried out. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated by a formula that calculates how valuable an item's stats really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values, and also that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
This is not the only factor that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For example, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit score. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification which are then increased by the player's skill.
Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, can only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.
Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage or other special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.
Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. improve armor will cost a set amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges just like the other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat in the range, unless they are an item that is unique or a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful for early game runs, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items are available at the store, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item if it is not successful.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. All items have a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5percent.
The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
