While all affected patients are born blind, or lose their vision in infancy, progressive sensorineural hearing loss develops in the majority of cases and is typically detected in the second decade of life. A range of additional symptoms of ND, such as seizure disorders, typically appear from a young age, but it is difficult to predict the range of symptoms ND patients will experience. After growing up without vision, hearing loss represents the greatest worry for many patients with ND, as they may lose the ability to participate in previously enjoyed activities or to communicate with others. Dual sensory loss has a physical, psychosocial and financial impact on both patients with ND and their families. Routine monitoring of the condition is required in order to identify, treat and provide support for emerging health problems, leading to a large burden of medical appointments. Many patients need to travel long distances to meet with specialists, representing a further burden on time and finances. Dual Sensory clinics are multidisciplinary environments designed for sensory-impaired children and have been suggested to alleviate the impact of diseases involving sensory loss such as ND. Here, we discuss the diagnosis, monitoring and management of ND and the impact it has on paediatric patients and their caregivers. However, valley properties in alloys remain largely unexplored. We investigate the valley degree of freedom in monolayer alloys of the phase change candidate material WSe2(1-x)Te2x. Low temperature Raman measurements track the alloy-induced transition from the semiconducting 1H phase of WSe2 to the semimetallic 1Td phase of WTe2. We correlate these observations with density functional theory calculations and identify new Raman modes from W-Te vibrations in the 1H-phase alloy. Photoluminescence measurements show ultra-low energy emission features that highlight alloy disorder arising from the large W-Te bond lengths. Interestingly, valley polarization and coherence in alloys survive at high Te compositions and are more robust against temperature than in WSe2. These findings illustrate the persistence of valley properties in alloys with highly dissimilar parent compounds and suggest band engineering can be utilized for valleytronic devices.
What is the effect of uterine bathing with sonography gel prior to IVF/ICSI-treatment on live birth rates after fresh embryo transfer in patients with endometriosis?

After formal interim analysis and premature ending of the trial, no significant difference between uterine bathing using a pharmacologically neutral sonography gel compared to a sham procedure on live birth rate after fresh embryo transfer in endometriosis patients (26.7% vs. 15.4%, relative risk (RR) 1.73, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.81-3.72;

What is the recommended management for women and transgender men with regards to fertility preservation (FP), based on the best available evidence in the literature?

The ESHRE Guideline on Female Fertility Preservation makes 78 recommendations on organization of care, information provision and support, pre-FP assessment, FP interventions and after treatment care. Ongoing developments in FP are also discussed.

The field of FP has grown hugely in the last two decades, driven by the increasing recognition of the importance of potential loss of fertility as a significant effect of the treatment of cancer and other serious diseases, and the development of the enabling technologies of oocyte vitrification and ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) for subsequent autografting. This has led to the widespread, though uneven, provision of FP for young women.

The guideline was developed according to the structured methodology for development of ESHRE guidelines. After formulation of key questions by a group of ex ESHRE.
