Laparoscopic resection for a significant gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) together with diaphragm invasion right after preoperative imatinib remedy: A case statement.
AIM To describe the organisation of the oral dental surgery service of the Department of Pediatric Odontostomatology and Orthodontics, "G. Gaslini" Hospital of Genoa (Italy), as well as type and frequency of the interventions carried out in the considered period of time. MATERIALS AND METHODS Study design Descriptive retrospective aepidemiological study about the access and surgery interventions in the years 2015-2018 and the first semester of 2019. This study was conducted at the Department of Pediatric Odontostomatology and Orthodontics of the "G. Gaslini" Hospital of Genoa, Italy, in which treatment is offered to children and adolescents aged between 0-14 years, to whom continuity of care is ensured also after this age range, and to special needs patients, even older that 18 years. The clinical data were extracted from the Hospital database and then statistically analysed with the SPSS programme. RESULTS Out of a total of 27,663 subjects, the patients who required oral surgery were 1,928 corresponding to 6.96%, for a total of 2,499 surgical interventions of which 1,667 were performed as outpatient surgery (dental chair) and 832 in the operating theatre. All the surgeries were performed by the same three doctors. In the group of patients under 18 years (1,773 subjects) the average age is 9.22 years; it should be underscored that over 70% of oral surgeries are performed on subjects between 7 and 13 years. CONCLUSIONS Given the low frequency of paediatric oral surgery, this type of intervention should be entrusted to operators and structures that have a wider experience in such cases in order to ensure the highest levels ofsafety.AIM This survey assessed Finnish dentists' treatment decisions and choices of restorative materials in selected paediatric dental patient cases, with special emphasis on stainless steel crowns (SSCs). METHODS A questionnaire with patient descriptions and tooth photographs was e-mailed to members of Finnish Dental Society (n=3,747). The respondents were asked to choose their preferred treatment in cases describing 1) extensive occlusal carious lesion in a primary molar of a cooperative child; 2) an identical lesion, treated under dental general anaesthesia (DGA); and 3) a symptomatic first permanent molar with enamel hypomineralisation (consistent with Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization, MIH) and post-eruptive breakdown. Only responses from dentist treating children were included (final n=765). RESULTS The majority (47.3%) would have preferred restoration of the extensive primary tooth caries in a normal setting using resin-modified glassionomer cement, and 4.3% by using SSC. The preference of SSC as treatment choice increased to 25.4% upon implementation of DGA. The majority would treat the symptomatic permanent MIH molar with a resin composite restoration (45.0%), while 10.5% suggested SSC. Compared to general dentists, paediatric dentists had a stronger preference for SSCs. CONCLUSIONS Although the respondents emphasised patient cooperation, but also tooth prognosis and material strength behind their treatment decisions, SSC was an uncommon choice.AIM Single-session apexification treatment with MTA is an alternative to the root-canal treatment of immature teeth. Since its results are far from ideal, research with MTA-derivative biomaterials continues; however, the number of studies is limited as of yet. This study aimed to compare the fragilities of in vitro-simulated immature teeth in single-session apexification with MTA and newly-developed calcium-silicate-based MTA derivatives. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two hundred seventy human permanent upper incisors were randomly divided into study (n = 180), positive control (Ca (OH)2) (n = 45), and negative control (NC-intact) (n = 45) groups. The study groups used ProRoot MTA (MTA-PR), MM-MTA, NeoMTA-Plus, and Biodentine (BD). Two-week, two-month, and one-year follow-ups data were recorded. A fracture resistance (FR) test was performed at the end of each period. The results of the biomaterials at the different follow-up timepoints were statistically analysed and compared. RESULTS The two-week FR medians were sigk compared to the one-year mark for each material, filling the root canal completely with biomaterials used in our study leads to tooth denaturation over time, with effects like Ca (OH)2.AIM The aim of this study was to see if a brief, computer-assisted intervention tool could be pleasant to use for adolescents. Another aim was to evaluate if the computer programme could affect adolescents' oral health-related behaviours. MATERIALS AND METHODS Study design For oral health promotion on schoolchildren, a computer-assisted intervention with personal feedback was performed. The effectiveness of the programme on participants' oral health behaviours as well as the feasibility of the programme were evaluated by responses of the participants. The study was conducted on 13-15 year-old schoolchildren (n=112). The computer programme included 19 questions about oral health-related behaviours and it provided personal feedback and tips towards better oral health. Additionally, the participants gave feedback about the programme. After four weeks, the intervention was repeated, the same questions were asked again, and the effect of the intervention on oral health behaviours was evaluated. RESULTS More than h their sum scores (calculated from responses to the questions on oral health-related behaviours). The differences between the sum scores at baseline and after the intervention were analysed with the paired samples t-test. CONCLUSIONS Information technology seems to have a remarkable potential in motivating patients towards better oral health behaviours.AIM Oral streptococci were found to be associated with Early Childhood Caries. selleckchem The aim of this study was to evaluate the 6 different bacteria in the streptococcus group in the saliva of children with severe early childhood caries (S-ECC) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 60 children between 3 and 6 years of age were divided into two groups children with S-ECC (Group S-ECC; n=30) and children who were caries-free (Group CF; n=30), according to the dmft and dmfs indices. Unstimulated saliva was collected from all participants for the detection of streptococcal group bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus oralis, Streptococcus sanguinis, Streptococcus gordonii, Streptococcus salivarius, and Streptococcus sobrinus, using PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of amplified 16S rRNA gene. The data were analysed using SPSS software. RESULTS The prevalence of S. oralis was significantly higher in the S-ECC group compared to the CF group (p0.05). The amount of streptococci colonies was higher in the S-ECC group compared to the CF group (p less then 0.
