17) compared with no VitD supplementation. However, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels showed no differences with or without VitD supplementation (-0.39 mg/dL; 95% CI -1.39 to 0.61).

VitD supplementation improved serum lipid levels among PCOS patients, but serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were not changed. VitD intervention might benefit PCOS patients who are at high risk of an atherogenic lipid profile.

Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is considered the mini-invasive treatment of choice for patients with Stanford type B aortic dissection (TBAD). This study aimed to investigate the clinical outcomes and quality of life (QoL) in patients with acute and subacute TBAD after TEVAR.

From January 2014 until July 2016, 22 acute patients (Group A) and 18 subacute patients received TEVAR (Group B), and 13 patients were managed non-operatively (Group C). The Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-36 was used to assess QoL preoperatively and after TEVAR. Operative techniques and complications were retrospectively analyzed.

The role emotion, vitality, and mental health domains scored well preoperatively. Except for role emotion, vitality, and mental health, the remaining domains significantly improved after TEVAR. There was no significant difference in QoL metrics between Groups A and B. In Group C, bodily pain and social functioning domains were improved, and role emotion was decreased, with no improvement in the remaining domains. The 3-year survival rates were 95.5%, 100%, and 85.7% for Groups A, B, and C, respectively.

TEVAR may be safe and effective in patients with acute and subacute TBAD with similar and favorable clinical and QoL metrics.

Mitochondrial antiviral signaling (MAVS) protein, located in the mitochondrial out-membrane, is necessary for IFN-beta induction and IFN-stimulated gene expression in response to external stress such as viral invasion and ionizing radiation (IR). Although the involvement of radiation induced bystander effect (RIBE) has been investigated for decades for secondary cancer risk related to radiotherapy, the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain largely unclear, especially the roles played by the immune factors such as MAVS.

MAVS gene knockout cells using CRISPR/Cas9 technology were used as donor cells or recipient cells to assess the role of MAVS in RIBE by means of co-cultured system. The micronucleus and γH2AX foci in the recipient cells were counted to demonstrate the degree of RIBE. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) level in the recipient was measured using the fluorescent dye 2'7'-dichlorofluorescein.

Firstly, we found that MAVS expression level was different in A549, BEAS-2B, U937 and HepG2 cells. Cell co-culture experiments showed that MAVS participate in RIBE. GSK3685032 concentration Interestingly, the RIBE response was more significant in recipient cells with higher level of MAVS (i.e. A549) than that in recipient cells showing lower level of MAVS (i.e. BEAS-2B). Further, the bystander response was dramatically suppressed in MAVS-silenced A549 and BEAS-2B recipient cells. MAVS-silenced recipient cells exhibited lower level of ROS induced by IR.

Our results indicated that the innate immune signaling molecule MAVS in recipient cells participate in RIBE. ROS is an important factor in RIBE via MAVS pathway and MAVS may be a potential target for the precise radiotherapy and radioprotection.

The underlying biological processes of the latter two pillars are DNA damage and repair. Hopefully, Radiation treatment has nowadays been improved a lot, in terms of tumor targeting precision as well as in minimization of side effects, by reducing normal tissue radiation exposure and therefore its occurred toxicity. Normal tissue toxicity is a major risk factor for induction of genomic instability which may lead to secondary cancer development, due to the radiation therapy itself. We discuss, in this review, the biological significance of IR-induced complex DNA damage, which is currently accepted as the definite regulator of biological response to radiation, as well as the regulator of the implications of this IR signature in radiation therapy. We unite accumulating evidence and knowledge over the last 20 years or so on the importance of radiation treatment of cancer. This radiation-based therapy comes unfortunately with a deficit and this is the radiation-induced genetic instability which can fuel radiation toxicity, even several years after the initial treatment on patients through the activation of DNA damage response (DDR) and the immune system.
People with dementia in institutional settings lack engagement in meaningful occupations, which may cause decreased quality of life. Although many researchers and professionals have proposed approaches to engage people with dementia in these occupations, an overview seems to be missing.

This scoping review provides an overview by categorizing and describing the characteristics of the approaches.

A thorough literature search in nine databases identified the studies on approaches. We included 54 studies, and extracted bibliometric data. A content analysis revealed the characteristics of the approaches.

Four categories of approaches were uncovered. First, the literature defined the concept of meaningful occupation in various ways. Second, a category of approaches provided theoretical knowledge of meaningful occupations. The third category focussed on specific themes, such as certain methods. The final described comprehensive multilevel approaches.

This review contributes to knowledge of the diversity of approaches to engage people with dementia in meaningful occupation within institutional settings.
