jirovecii strains per patient. A transmission map suggested multiple clusters of interhuman transmission. In a case-control univariate analysis, belatacept, lower absolute lymphocyte count, non-White race, and more transplant clinic visits were associated with an increased risk of PCP. In multivariate and prediction power estimate analyses, frequent clinic visits was the strongest risk factor for PCP.

Increased clinic exposure appeared to facilitate multiple clusters of nosocomial PCP transmission among KTR. Belatacept was a risk factor for PCP, possibly by increasing clinic exposure through the need for frequent visits for monthly infusions.

The new technologies of RNAcompete and RNA Bind-n-Seq enable the measurement of the binding intensities of one RNA-binding protein (RBP) to numerous synthetic RNA sequences in a single experiment. Recently, Van Nostrand et al. reported the results of RNA Bind-n-Seq experiments measuring binding of 78 human RBPs. Because 31 of these RBPs were also covered by RNAcompete technology, a large-scale comparison between implementations of these two in vitro technologies is now possible. Here, we assessed the similarities and differences between binding models, represented as a list of $k$-mer scores, inferred from RNAcompete and RNA Bind-n-Seq, and also measured how well these models predict in vivo binding. Our results show that RNA Bind-n-Seq- and RNAcompete-derived models agree (Pearson correlation $> 0.5$) for most RBPs (23 out of 31). RNA Bind-n-Seq-derived $k$-mer scores predict RNAcompete binding measurements quite well (average Pearson correlation 0.26), and both technologies produce $k$-mer scores that achieve comparable results in predicting in vivo binding (average AUC 0.7). When inspecting RNA structural preferences inferred from the data of RNA Bind-n-Seq and RNAcompete, we observed high concordance in binding preferences. Through our study, we developed a new $k$-mer score for RNA Bind-n-Seq and extended it to include RNA structural preferences.Cancer is an important cause of childhood mortality, yet the etiology is largely unknown. A combination of pre- and postnatal factors is thought to be implicated, including maternal medication use. We aimed to provide 1) a systematic review of peer-reviewed publications on associations between maternal medication use and childhood cancer with a focus on study design and methodology, and 2) suggestions for how to increase transparency, limit potential biases, and improve comparability in studies on maternal medication use and childhood cancer. We conducted a systematic search in the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases until June 8th 2020. Altogether, 112 studies were identified. The reviewed studies were heterogeneous in study design, exposure, and outcome classification. In 21 studies (19%), the outcome was any childhood cancer. Of the 91 papers that reported on specific types of cancer, 62% did not report the cancer classification system. The most frequently investigated medication groups were sex hormones (46 studies, excluding fertility medications), and anti-infectives (37 studies). Suggestions for strengthening future pharmacoepidemiological studies on maternal medication use and childhood cancer relate to choice of cancer classification system, exposure windows, and methods for identification of -, and control for, potential confounders.Forty-four elementary grade teachers of deaf and hard of hearing students were surveyed about how they taught writing and their beliefs about writing. Beliefs about writing included their self-efficacy to teach writing, attitude toward writing, and epistemological beliefs about writing. These teachers from fifteen different states in the United States slightly agreed that they were efficacious writing teachers and they were slightly positive about their writing. They slightly agreed that learning to write involves effort and process, moderately disagreed that writing development is innate or fixed, slightly disagreed that knowledge about writing is certain, and were equally split about whether writing knowledge comes from authorities and experts. On average, teachers applied the twenty-two instructional writing practices surveyed at least once a month. They reported their students wrote weekly, and their writing was supported through goal setting, feedback, and prewriting activities. Writing instruction mostly focuses on teaching grammar and how to plan compositions. read more Teacher self-efficacy uniquely and statistically predicted reported teaching practices after attitude toward writing, and epistemological beliefs were first controlled. Recommendations for future research and implications for practice are presented.During the early second trimester, the cortical plate, or "the developing cortex", undergoes immensely complex and rapid development to complete its major complement of neurons. However, morphological development of the cortical plate and the precise patterning of brain structural covariance networks during this period remain unexplored. In this study, we used 7.0 T high-resolution magnetic resonance images of brain specimens ranging from 14 to 22 gestational weeks to manually segment the cortical plate. Thickness, area expansion, and curvature (i.e., folding) across the cortical plate regions were computed, and correlations of thickness values among different cortical plate regions were measured to analyze fetal cortico-cortical structural covariance throughout development of the early second trimester. The cortical plate displayed significant increases in thickness and expansions in area throughout all regions but changes of curvature in only certain major sulci. The topological architecture and network properties of fetal brain covariance presented immature and inefficient organizations with low degree of integration and high degree of segregation. Altogether, our results provide novel insight on the developmental patterning of cortical plate thickness and the developmental origin of brain network architecture throughout the early second trimester.
