Physiotherapy is used as a non-pharmacological treatment for migraine. However, controversy exists over whether articulatory manual techniques are effective in some aspects related to migraine.

To assess the effectiveness of a manual therapy protocol based on articulatory techniques in pain intensity, frequency of episodes, migraine disability, quality of life, medication intake and self-reported perceived change after treatment in migraine patients.

Randomized controlled trial.

Fifty individuals with migraine were randomized into the experimental group, which received manual therapy based on articulatory techniques (n=25), or the placebo group (n=25). CL316243 price The intervention lasted 4 weeks and included 4 sessions. Patients were assessed before (T1), after (T2) and at a one-month follow-up following the intervention (T3). The instruments used were the Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) questionnaire, the Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36), the medication intake and The Patients' Global Impression of Change scale.

In comparison with placebo group, manual therapy patients reported significant effects on pain intensity at T2 (p<0.001; d=1.15) and at T3 (p<0.001; d=1.13), migraine disability at T3 (p<0.05; d=0.69), physical quality of life at T2 (p<0.05; d=0.72), overall quality of life at T2 (p<0.05; d=0.60), decrease in medication intake at T2 (p<0.001; d=1.11) and at T3 (p<0.05; d=0.77) and self-reported perceived change after treatment at T2 and T3 (p<0.001). No serious adverse events were reported.

The application of a manual therapy protocol based on articulatory techniques reduced pain intensity, migraine disability, and medication intake, while improving quality of life in patients with migraine.

Here we found that reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, UV-Vis photons, and high-frequency strong electromagnetic fields with an amplitude of a few kV produced by a cold plasma jet can interact with bio-tissue and damage it if the plasma treatment is long enough. The electrophysiological effects of CAPP treatment of bio-tissue and electrical signals transmission were measured in the Venus flytrap. The plasma ball does not produce any visible side effects on the Venus flytrap, but induces electrical signals in bio-tissue with very high amplitude. Plasma (Kirlian) photography shows the existence of a blue aura around the plasma ball due to a corona discharge. Understanding the mechanisms of interactions between CAPP and bio-tissue and preventing side effects can contribute to the application of plasma technology in medicine and agriculture. The use of cold plasma in medicine and agriculture should be monitored for side effects from strong high-frequency electro-magnetic fields, UV photons, and reactive oxygen and nitrogen species to protect against undesirable consequences.
Cancer is the second leading cause of mortality worldwide. Integrating different levels of care by implementing screening programmes, extending diagnostic tools and applying therapeutic advances may increase survival. We implemented a cancer fast-track programme (CFP) to shorten the time between suspected cancer symptoms, diagnosis and therapy initiation.

Descriptive data were collected from the 10 years since the CFP was implemented (2009-2019) at the Clinico-Malvarrosa Health Department in Valencia, Spain. General practitioners (GPs), an oncology coordinator and 11 specialists designed guidelines for GP patient referral to the CFP, including criteria for breast, digestive, gynaecological, lung, urological, dermatological, head and neck, and soft tissue cancers. Patients with enlarged lymph nodes and constitutional symptoms were also considered. On identifying patients with suspected cancer, GPs sent a case proposal to the oncology coordinator. If criteria were met, an appointment was quickly made with t intended treatment, and required only minimal resources in our setting.
To optimize a screening method for macroprolactinemia and improve the accuracy of free prolactin (freePRL) detection.

Overall efficiency, calculated as the product of the immunoglobulin G (IgG) precipitation rate and the freePRL recovery rate were employed to determine the concentration of the precipitant polyethylene glycol (PEG). Then, an optimized screening method for macroprolactinemia was established. The concentrations of freePRL, obtained by gel filtration chromatography (GFC), from 66 cases were used as the gold standard, and the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and precision of the optimized and traditional methods for detecting macroprolactinemia were compared.

(1) The IgG precipitation rate increased with increasing PEG6000 concentration, and the freePRL recovery rate decreased with increasing PEG6000 concentration; the overall efficiency first increased and then decreased. When the IgG concentrations in the mixture were 10 g/L, 25 g/L and 40 g/L, the concentrations of PEG6000 with the highain freePRL components. Compared with traditional methods, the optimized method is simpler, more accurate and more stable for the quantitative detection of freePRL.Iridium(III) complexes have the potential to serve as novel therapeutic drugs for treating tumor. In this work, three new complexes [Ir(ppy)2(cdppz)](PF6) (1) (ppy = 2-phenylpyridine, cdppz = 11-chlorodipyrido[3,2-a,2',3'-c]phenazine), [Ir(bzq)2(cdppz)](PF6) (2) (bzq = benzo[h]quinolone) and [Ir(piq)2(cdppz)](PF6) (3) (piq = 1-phenylisoquinoline) were prepared as well as characterized. MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole)-2,5-diphenyltetraazolium bromide) assay revealed that the complex 2 exerted potent cytotoxicity against to various cancer cells lines and particularly for SGC-7901 cells. Meanwhile, the complexes could suppress cell colonies formation and migration ability. Apoptosis assays of AO/EB staining as well as flow cytometry revealed that the synthesized complexes may cause apoptosis of SGC-7901 cells. Moreover, the decline of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), elevation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and release of cytochrome c demonstrated the complexes could cause apoptosis mainly through the mitochondrial death pathway and arrest cell at G0/G1 phase.
