Path of Exile Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a common and essential way to boost the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.
Rare-grade equipment can be superior to upgraded Common or Magic equipment because of their high requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they are connected to. Upgrades to armor are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternately, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components in them with a professional or higher salvage kit.
The amount of damage that a piece of armor or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the extent of its upgrades. Upgrading a piece of armor to maximum upgrade level will boost its ability to absorb damage. However, it's important to be aware that this upgrade will raise its weight, requiring it to be heavier than before.
There are a few different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game and each one has distinct effects. For instance, certain upgrades give the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others make it lighter and stronger. The kind of armor upgrade an item can receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade as illustrated in the table below.
Some upgrades also feature magic or a mix of technology and magic, which is identified by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges in order to be used. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades refresh daily or never expire, dependent on the upgrade.
The cheapest method to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be found by exploring the area and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive, but it can be obtained from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to armor pieces of the highest level. These upgrades can give significant improvement in stats and are a worthwhile cost, especially for single-handed weapons.
The player must be aware, however, that upgrading a piece to the maximum upgrade level can increase its defense values. However, it will also decrease its agility and speed. Therefore, it is not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces above +9, because the increase in defense is usually not worth the additional weight and power cost of the upgrades needed.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades give players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For example an upgrade can increase the damage dealt by shotgun shells or the accuracy of a rifle sniper. improve gear have upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity for greater damage) are two examples.
The majority of upgrades for weapons require the use of a whetblade, or one of the three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. They can be obtained by completing Side Quests, killing a certain number of monsters or bosses, or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.
Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee that is based on a specific number of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade the higher the level. The cost of upgrades will be less if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5 you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a specific amount of Bars. You could continue doing this until you reached the maximum upgrade level for the equipment or weapon, following which the upgrades would be reset.
You can still do this but the process is high on RNG and low on agency. You should consider buying equipment that has low levels of upgrade but with high base scores and stat distributions. These will have a chance at gaining you the best tier of benefits and blessings.
The majority of players will make the most of upgrades to weapons they most often use to help them level up faster. Players should also upgrade the weapons their squadmates use to make them stronger. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to enhance its effectiveness when accompanied by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are utilized in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine gemstones with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the level of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or through salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.
The Jeweler can improve the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts can vary depending on the tier the jewel is at when it is inserted into weapons, jewelry, or gear.
The Jeweler can create all kinds of gems, with the exception of rare and legendary ones, which you must be at certain levels to gain. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped out with another jewel of the same type without damaging the original one. However you can only swap out the jewels in an item of equipment only once.
It is common to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. The jewels also improve performance and create a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not damage them.
In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades players can also acquire glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These provide a small bonus and are able to be swapped easily but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, just like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis, aren't swappable and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor, or by salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets are items of equipment that bestow an array of tiny but valuable advantages to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the beginning areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and through completing road interactions. They may also be crafted by jewelers, and found or purchased at the Trading Post.
The first trinkets a player is able to unlock is the cloak. It grants a small, but valuable boost to movement speed and evasion. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same way to how a player acquires armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets.
These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't in combat. This enables the hero to perform better when they are not active and may also help to compensate for the absence of a strong team or any slots in the talent tree that normally are filled with the hero's best statistics.
A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is true especially if you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an item. It's best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.
Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one at the beginning of the game. Mid and top players on the other hand they will select a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.
Apart from the items listed above, players can find a number of other trinkets in the game in the form of awards and trophies. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story. For example, completing a chapter’s main quest or beating a boss. They can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
