The term 'amphetamine' refers to a class of synthetic drugs which includes methamphetamine. The latter is a globally popular drug of abuse which induces euphoria, affecting cognitive/psychomotor performance and sleep. It also provokes risk taking and violent behaviour. The central effects of methamphetamine are due to the overproduction of neurotransmitters, resulting in high levels of dopamine. In recent years, there have been significant increases in cases of methamphetamine abuse in North and South America, Australia and Asia due to its ready availability and low cost. The following review examines changing trends in methamphetamine use and problems that arise diagnostically in medico-legal cases in determining the significance of post-mortem blood levels, the relationship of these to ante-mortem levels, the possible effects on physical and psychological behaviours and the possible contribution of the drug to a lethal episode. The chemical modifications of lignin-based superplasticizers have attracted extensive attentions during recent years. The comprehending of the structure-activity relationship of lignin-based superplasticizer is important to promote the modification and application research of lignin resources. However, lignin features complex and variable molecular structure, which is not conducive to study on structure-activity relationship of lignin-based superplasticizer as well as development and application of new lignin-based superplasticizer. However, the related research work can be simplified by selecting small molecular compound with appropriate molecular structure as the lignin model compound. This article intends to study the structure-activity relationship of lignin-based superplasticizer by using dihydroeugenol as the lignin model compound. Through the substitution of lignin by dihydroeugenol during the synthesis process, a model compound lignin-based superplasticizer (DAFS) was synthesized. The adsorption and dispersion properties of this superplasticizer and reference sample (LAFS) were investigated by fluidity test, Zeta-potential measurement, Total organic carbon analysis and others. The results suggest that the adsorption behavior of both DAFS and LAFS conformed to the Langmuir isotherms and Pseudo-second order kinetic. In cement paste, added with 1 g/L of LAFS and DAFS, Zeta potential were reduced from +3.5 to -15.2 mV and -18.7 mV, respectively. The substitution of lignin by dihydroeugenol has no significantly influence on the dispersive property, but differences on rheological properties which need to be optimized in the future. All the tests confirmed that dihydroeugenol is suitable to replace lignin on exploring the structure-activity relationship of lignin-based superplasticizer. This research work provides new insight on model study of lignin-based superplasticizer.Drosophila melanogaster has proven to be a powerful genetic model to study human disease. Approximately 75% of human disease-associated genes have homologs in the fruit fly and regulatory pathways are highly conserved in Drosophila compared to humans. Drosophila is an established model organism for the study of genetics and developmental biology related to human disease and has also made a great contribution to epigenetic research. Many key factors that regulate chromatin condensation through effects on histone post-translational modifications were first discovered in genetic screens in Drosophila. Recently, the importance of chromatin regulators in cancer progression has been uncovered, leading to a rapid expansion in the knowledge on how perturbations of chromatin can result in the pathogenesis of human cancer. In this review, we provide examples of how Drosophila melanogaster has contributed to better understanding the detrimental effects of mutant forms of histones, called 'oncohistones', that are found in different human tumours.Amiodarone (AMD) is one of the highly effective antiarrhythmic agents used for treating refractory arrhythmias. It is well known to have long-term administration side effects such as nephrotoxicity. The possible ameliorative effects of antioxidant grape seed extract; on the extent of tissue damage in AMD-induced nephrotoxicity has not been investigated before. Twenty-four albino rats were used in this study and divided into four groups (n = 6). The 1st group served as an untreated control group, under the same laboratory conditions, the 2nd group received (100 mg/kg/day) of grape seed extract (GSE), the 3rd group, AMD-treated group, received AMD (40 mg/kg/day) and the 4th group received both AMD and GSE in the same doses as the previous groups. AMD-treated group showed abnormal glomerular capillaries with wrinkling basement membranes damaged mesangial cells and distorted proximal tubules with plenty of lysosomes. Ultrastructural alterations were also observed in this group. This was also associated with a significant increase in biomarkers of kidney injury (creatinine), oxidative stress ((Decreased SOD and increased MDA) and biomarkers of inflammation IL-6) in comparison to the control group. Supplementation of GSE to AMD group for eight weeks counteracted these effects. It caused an improvement in histological and t ultrastructure changes of the renal tissues associated with decreased creatinine and biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation in comparison to AMD-treated group. We conclude that GSE protects against AMD-induced kidney injuries in rats, which is associated with the inhibition of biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress.Nociceptor sensitization following nerve injury or inflammation leads to chronic pain. An increase in the nociceptor hyperpolarization-activated current, Ih, is observed in many models of pathological pain. Pharmacological blockade of Ih prevents the mechanical and thermal hypersensitivity that occurs during pathological pain. Alterations in the Hyperpolarization-activated Cyclic Nucleotide-gated ion channel 2 (HCN2) mediate Ih-dependent thermal and mechanical hyperalgesia. Limited knowledge exists regarding the nature of these changes during chronic inflammatory pain. SCH772984 inhibitor Modifications in HCN2 expression and post-translational SUMOylation have been observed in the Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA) model of chronic inflammatory pain. Intra-plantar injection of CFA into the rat hindpaw induces unilateral hyperalgesia that is sustained for up to 14 days following injection. The hindpaw is innervated by primary afferents in lumbar DRG, L4-6. Adjustments in HCN2 expression and SUMOylation have been well-documented for L5 DRG during the first 7 days of CFA-induced inflammation.
