Please wait while I connect you with an Apple Specialist.

Now Chatting with Holly

Hi there! Welcome to the Apple Online Store. My name is Holly and I'm happy to help with your questions! By the way, how are you today?

Im great thanks

Glad to hear it! What questions do you have on the education pricing?

I live in Puerto Rico and I looked if I was eligible for it but didn't find any information about it and eligibility info

Are you a college student, teacher or faculty member?

Nope..

You would have to fall into one of those categories to be eligible the school has to be in the US, not a US territory.

Oh ok so it is College students, teachers or faculty members of a US School

Yes, that is correct. But we do have refurbished iMacs here online for less. Would you like the link to those?

I looked for refurbished iMacs on another website and the reviews were not pretty, but I know Apple certifies them right?

Oh definitely! Our refurbished models are Apple-certified, and they have the same warranties, options for AppleCare coverage, and 14-day return policy as our new items.

During our refurbishing process, these models are fully tested and thoroughly cleaned; any defective component is replaced with genuine Apple components; and they are repackaged with the necessary documentation and accessories that a new model comes with.

The warranty covers any problem?

All Macs come with a one year AppleCare warranty and 90 days of phone support. You also have the option to extend that warranty and phone support to a total of 3 years for $169 on the iMacs.

AppleCare Protection offers 3 years of unlimited calls to our technical support team. It extends the original coverage from 1 year to 3 years. This includes parts and labor as well as any included Apple software, hardware, and accessories.

It just does not cover accidental damage.

Will this be your first Mac?

And due to the lack of Apple Stores in PR, does that cover repairs even in Authorized reselers?

Nope, second

Oh definitely! What city are you in?

Anasco, Puerto Rico

My closest store I believe is Modernica

Okay, let me check and make sure there is an authorized service provider in that area. One moment.

Okay, one moment.

What is your zip code?

00610, but you can check near the capital also which is 00936 I believe

Okay, thanks.

00680 is also a location with a couple of places

Nothing is showing for 00610. And 0096 is not showing valid. One moment.

00936 *

Can you check by city name?

Sorry I meant to say 00936

Anasco misses a ~ in the n

I did that as well. The only one I can find so far is BEST BUY - 109098.3 km
60 AVE RIO HONDO STE 60
RIO HONDO PR
BAYAMON 00961-3121

Oh yes

I bought the first one there

Cool

Wait 109098km from you right?

that is the only location I am seeing. Or you can ship it to Apple for repair. 98.3 km from you.

That 1090 is just the store #

Not the phone # but their actual number for the store.

Ah ok

Would you like the link to the refurbished iMacs?

Yeah its ok

Is that a yes? haha!

Now that I know that, can I add warranty to a mid-2011 iMac or do I need to pay directly the fixes?

You have to get the AppleCare warranty within one year from the Mac purchase date.

Ah ok, it has been 4 years from that....

Gotcha

And being Authorized Apple Service Providers, can they charge me to fix my old iMac or they just service warranties?

They can charge you as well if it is out of warranty.

Okies

Are you researching for now or looking to purchase today?

Im researching for now, planning to buy this week but not today

Okay, cool.

What I can do is build you a quote with what you need so you can add it to your own shopping bag. That way you can see the items along with pricing totals. Does that sound good?

Sure

are you wanting a quote on a brand new iMac? Or a refurbished model?

Brand new is ok

Okay, are you wanting a 21.5” screen size or the larger 27"?

21.5

What will you be using this Mac for besides everyday internet and email?

Schoolwork, photo editing, iMovie editing and not much more

Okay, cool.

Are you wanting the higher resolution 4k display?

I'm between that one and the 2.8GHz one, I know for iMovie it will look better but the price is higher

It will really only look better if you have a camera that records video in 4k.

Do you have a 4k video camera?

Or 1080p?

I have a Nikon which I dont know if it records in 4k

How long have you had that Nikon?

it has 20megapixels its a Nikon D3200, and for two years

I doubt it does, but let me check real quick.

Does the iPhone 6 take 4k or only the 6s?

that Nikon looks to be 1080p.

Let me check

I think its 1080p

I was planning for an iPhone 7 which I know will be 4k but its tough to buy both in such little time

It looks like the 6s, 6s Plus and the new iPhone SE shoots in 4k. The previous 6 and 6 Plus is 1080p.

I understand.

So do you want to stick with the mid range iMac model for now?

Ah ok I didnt know the SE shoots 4k, and yes

Now since the RAM cannot be upgrade later in the 21.5” models, do you want to upgrade the Ram to 16GB for $200 more?

I had that issue which I dont know to upgrade or not, I tend to export 20 minute videos in iMovie like once a month, do you think it will be better the Fusion drive, 16 of RAM, or just the plain one?

16GB of RAM would definitely help with the videos for sure!

My mid-2011 iMac had 4GB of RAM and did them ok, but it got too hot

How long do you usually keep your Macs? 5 years or so?

My other iMac died some days ago, after 4 and a half years, but because of a graphics crash

Oh wow! I am sorry to hear that!

I am too

Are you trying to decide between the 16GB RAM upgrade and the Fusion drive?

Yes

That being because I saw Apple downgraded the HDs to 5400rpm ones, which tend to be slower

Do you tend to have a lot of programs and windows open and running at the same time?

Ehh, I just have Safari and iTunes, and if I open iMovie I keep Safari open

With the 1TB Fusion Drive in your iMac, booting is up to 1.7 times faster, and copying files and importing photos are up to 3.5 times faster.

So it sounds like the Fusion drive would benefit you more based on your use.

Want to do that upgrade then?

The fusion drive works like RAM?

Or like a more long term RAM?

No, The 1TB Fusion Drive combines 24GB of super fast flash storage with a traditional hard drive. It automatically moves frequently used files to flash for quicker access.

If you do tons of multi-tasking then I would have recommended the RAM upgrade instead.

So you want to go for the Fusion upgrade for $100?

Yes I would try that

Sounds good. And do you want me to add that AppleCare warranty for $169?

You say I have one year to add it?

That is correct.

Ill take it without it and add it later

Okay and do you want the USB SuperDrive for $79 to plug into the iMac as needed to use CDs and DVDs?

Not for now, thank you, my school uses usb drives normally

Okay cool.

Is there anything else you would like me to add to this quote besides the iMac itself?

Nope

And what is your email address so I can send this to you?

[email protected]

Thanks, one moment.

Alright I just sent that email to you. I hope this has helped! Again my name is Holly. May I help you with any other questions?

Can I save this chat somehow?
