Jika misalnya terlanjur diserang oleh dementor, maka pertolongan pertama yang terbaik adalah coklat, coklat dapat membantu sang korban yang diserang dementor untuk kembali mengumpulkan tenaganya. Dementor tidak dapat dibunuh dengan mantra fisik, tetapi hanya bisa kita singkirkan untuk sementara. Karena itu mantra seperti Avada Kedavra tidak mempan untuk membunuh Dementor.
