Physical Health: Overall condition of a person at a given time. Includes being free from disease or abnormality, or being capable of dealing with demands of daily living. (Exercise, Eat right, Sleep for 8 hrs., etc.)
Mental and Emotional Health: The condition of a person's mind and the way they express feelings. (Enhance yourself, Understand/ Express your emotions in a healthy way, Practice stress management, Learn to make responsible decisions
Social Health: The condition of a person's relationships of others. (Practice communication skills such as active listening, refusal and conflict resolution skills, Respect others, Develop healthful relationships)
Risk Definitions: 1. A chance a person takes without knowing what the outcome will be. 2. The degree of probability or likelihood that something will happen. 3. Dangerous chances of injury or loss.
Protective factors are actions taken to avoid the effects of a particular risk.

1. What is an influence?
Anything or anyone that has the ability to sway your thoughts and actions. Positively or negatively.
2. External Influences- Family, Friends, Peers, etc., Social Media, Cultural background, Society/ Community, Your DNA.
Internal Influences- Your Health Knowledge, Lifestyle, Likes/Dislikes, Experiences, How you feel about yourself.
3. What are easy steps you can take to analyze your influence?
Make a list of people and things that have the most influence on you.
Evaluate how each influence might affect your health, positively or negatively.
4. Top Eight Common Advertising Techniques
Jingle or Slogan- Song/Phrase that helps you remember a product.
Cartoon Character- Animated character that promotes a product.
Celebrity Endorsements- A celebrity who says they use the product.
Image Appeal- The products claims to make you thinner, healthier, richer, better looking, more popular, or happier.
Bandwagon- Implies that everybody else is using it.
Sensory Appeal- Product taste good, looks good, smells good, or feels good.
Comparison Appeal- Brand is better than other brands.
Savings or Free Appeal- You will save money or get something free.
5. What are five questions you should ask yourself to evaluate an ad?
a. What product or service is being advertised?
b. What advertising technique is being used?
c. Who appears to be the target audience for the ad?
d. What is being promised in the ad, or what does the ad want me to believe?
e. What does the ad not tell me about the product?

Health Skill #3: Making Healthy Decisions
Complete chart.
Step 1: Identify the decision to be made
What is the situation? Who is involved? How much time do I have to make my decision?
Step 2: List your options
How could I solve the problem? What are my choices? Where can I get information to help me make the decision? Who can I trust and talk to for help or guidance?
Step 3: List the consequences of each option
How will my choice affect me, both now and in the future? Will my choice affect anyone else, and if so, how? Which options promote healthy living and safety? Which options are legal?
Step 4: Choose the best option and take action
What choice seems best? What do I need to do to follow through on my decision?
Step 5: Evaluate the decision
What were the consequence of my decisions? Did the benefits of my decision outweigh the disadvantages? How did my decision make me feel about myself? How did my decision affect others? Did the results turn out as I planned? What did I learn? If I had to do it again, would I make the same decision?

Health Skill #4: Goal Setting
1. What is the difference between a short- and long-term goal?
Short-term can be achieved in the near future.
Long-term can be achieved after an extended period time.
2. What are the four steps to setting goals?
Write down your goal.
Develop an action plan.
Establish a support system.
Reward yourself along the way.
3. Your goal should be clear, specific, and measurable. It should have a realistic time line for achievement. It should be manageable and in your control. Finally, it should be positive, not negative. It should tell what you will do, instead of what you won't do.

1. What is interpersonal communication?
The exchange of thoughts or feeling between two more people.
2. What four elements are involved in communication?
a. Speaking
b. Listening
c. Observing
d. Understanding
3. What are the four components of interpersonal communication?
a. Verbal and nonverbal communication
b. Active listening skill
c. Refusal skills
d. Conflict-resolution skills
4. What is verbal communication?
Pitch- Rise and fall: highs and lows
Volume- Intensity and loudness
Pacing- Speed of delivery
Emphasis- Vocal ppush that makes a word or words stand out
These kind of vocal dynamics, plus the words you speak, are the components
5. Nonverbal communication uses anything but words, including nodding your head, shrugging your shoulders, and avoiding eye contact.
6. What does an active listener do?
a. Faces the speaker/ makes eye contact
b. Pays attention to the person's body language, tone of voice, and what the person is saying.
c. Uses verbal and nonverbal communication to show they're listening.
d. Asks for more info and restates the speaker's message to check for understanding
e. Shows acknowledgement or appreciation for what is being said.
7. Complete the chart below with four components of an effective refusal.
1. Use the word "no."
2. Use nonverbal language that supports your "no."
3. Use a firm tone of voice to support your "no."
4. Repeat your "no" message as often as necessary.
8. Conflict-resolution skills can be used to settle a disagreement peacefully.
