Although several studies have examined the link between different food groups intake and stunting among children, no study, to our knowledge, was done on exceptional children. The aim of this study was assessed the association of dietary intake and stunting in Iranian exceptional children.

This cross-sectional study was conducted on 470 exceptional children (226 mentally retarded, 182 deaf and 62 blind children), aged 5-15years. Height was measured using standard tool. Stunting was defined as height-for-age z-score of <-1. A validated dietary habit questionnaire was applied to assess dietary intakes.

Mean age of children was 10.02 ± 2.04years. Stunting was prevalent among 50.6% of children. Compared with children in the lowest category of dairy consumption, those in the highest category had lower odds of stunting. This association remained significant even after adjusting for covariates (OR 0.50, 95% CI 0.29-0.87). In addition, moderate consumption of egg (1-3 time/wk) was inversely associated with stunting either before or after controlling for potential confounders (OR 0.36, 95% CI 0.21-0.64). Such finding was also seen among mentally retarded children (OR 0.38, 95% CI 0.16-0.89). No other significant association was seen between intakes of other food groups (including meat, fruits and vegetables) and stunting.

We found that higher intake of dairy products and egg was associated with lower risk of stunting. However, intakes of other food groups including meat, fruits and vegetables were not significantly related to stunting.

Unilateral retinal pigment epithelium dysgenesis (URPED) is a rare condition and is characterized by a unilateral and solitary lesion in the peripapillary region. The lesion presents with central atrophy, peripheral fibrosis, and hyperplastic changes in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). Herein, we report the first case of URPED in a Chinese individual using multimodal imaging techniques such as en-face optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

A 10-year-old girl presented with 20/40 vision in her left eye. Presented as a solitary, unilateral, large and yellowish-white lesion, with fringe-like margins was observed in the posterior pole and lower middle periphery of the left eye continuous with the optic nerve, indicated URPED. Infrared fundal (IR) images showed that the fringe-like contour of the lesion was visible, with diffuse hyperreflective signals specifically in the fovea, while with peripheral dark spots, having a typical leopard-spot like appearancefine the en-face OCT and OCTA features of URPED and clarify the disease characteristics and prognosis.
This is the first report on URPED in China. this website Both en-face OCT and OCTA were essential in observing and studying the disease. Further investigation is required to better define the en-face OCT and OCTA features of URPED and clarify the disease characteristics and prognosis.
Prefrontal repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation is an established add-on treatment for major depressive disorder and is increasingly feasible with protocols of short duration, such as intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS). The most common and limiting side effect is pain at the site of application. Our objective was to investigate how pain develops over time in patients with depression receiving iTBS compared to sham stimulation.

This is a subsample from a randomized clinical trial. Patients received daily sessions of 2400 pulses of dorsomedial prefrontal iTBS or sham stimulation with transcutaneous electric stimulation during 2 to 3 weeks. After unmasking of treatment allocation, patients receiving sham treatment were offered active iTBS in an open phase. Patients rated pain on a scale from 0 to 10 after the last train of stimulation on the first, fifth and final treatment day. A Mann-Whitney U-test was conducted to test for group differences and related-samples Friedman's tests to analyze changes in pain ratings over time.

The scalp pain in the group receiving iTBS was rated higher than sham treatment on the first (U = 263.5, p = 0.035) and fifth day (U = 271.0, p = 0.020) but not on the final day (U = 210.5, p = 0.121). The pain decreased mainly during the first 5 days of treatment (χ
= 0.875, p = 0.040). In the open phase the pain decreased from the first day to the final day (χ
 = 1.194, p = 0.001).

The subjective pain perception of active dorsomedial iTBS was higher than sham treatment but decreased over time, indicating an analgesic effect, or habituation. The result from this study can be used to inform patients about what to expect regarding pain during an iTBS treatment course.

To date, there is limited evidence on the effect of antenatal exposure to non-organophosphate household pesticides on infant health. Our hypothesis is that antenatal exposure to non-organophosphate household pesticides will be associated with birth sizes and infant growth rate.

In this prospective cohort study, 284 mother-infant pairs were studied. Mothers were recruited at the third trimester in two primary care centers and one private hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia. Mothers filled out questionnaires about exposure to non-organophosphate household pesticides at the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Birth weight and length were measured at birth. Afterwards, the weight, height, and head circumference (HC) were measured at 7 days, 1, 2, 4, and 6 months of age. Linear mixed modeling and linear regression was performed to calculate growth rate of each infant. Multivariable linear regression adjusted for confounders was used to assess the association between household pesticides exposure and birth sizes and infant growth rate.

Based on self-report questionnaires, 133 (46.8%) mothers were exposed to household pesticides during pregnancy. The mean HC at day 7 in the exposed group was - 7.1 mm (95%CI -13.1;-1.2) lower than in the non-exposed group. The difference was more prominent in the non-mosquito pesticide group (linear regression coefficient - 22.1 mm, 95%CI -36.5;-7.6). No material associations were found between antenatal exposure to household pesticides with other growth measures, including weight gain, length gain, HC increment and weight-to-length gain rates. No modification of effects by breastfeeding was found.

Our findings suggest that antenatal exposure to household non-organophosphate pesticides is associated with smaller head circumference at birth.
