1. Setting Up Your Sheet
Sheet Size & Scale:

Create an 11”x17” sheet with a 1/4” = 1’-0” scale for SA-5.0.

Use the same scale for SA-5.1 or create a secondary, detailed sheet for the restrooms.

Title Block Information:

Ensure the title block is updated with your name, project title, assignment number (SA-5.0 or SA-5.1), and sheet number.

Include a drawing tag/scale note that clearly indicates 1/4” = 1’-0”.

2. Laying Out the Building Core (SA-5.0)
A. Mechanical Spaces
Place Rooms for Mechanical Spaces:

Air Handler Room: Draw a room (or a generic placeholder) sized 8’-0” x 20’-0”.

Electrical Room: Place an 8’-0” x 12’-0” room adjacent to the mechanical core.

Water Service Room: Size this at 8’-0” x 6’-0”.

Exhaust Duct Area: Insert a small room or callout area sized 3’-0” x 3’-0”.

Notes & CMU Walls:

Indicate where 8” CMU enclosures are required in the drawing.

Add clear room name tags/notes with dimensions and intended use.

B. Elevator Locations
HC Accessible Elevator:

Place a symbol representing the accessible elevator.

Check pages 499–503 of the APH for minimum pit depth, car dimensions, door sizes, and clear floor space requirements.

Include the elevator lobby if needed, ensuring proper circulation.

Service Elevator:

Place the service elevator symbol near the core so it can conveniently serve mechanical rooms without interfering with public circulation.

Detailing:

Clearly tag each elevator (for example, “Elev-1: HC Accessible”, “Elev-2: Service”).

Add dimensions showing the clearances around each elevator.

C. Restroom Core
General Layout:

Group Men’s and Women’s Restrooms together.

Ensure the restroom core is adjacent to the vertical circulation (elevators and stairwells) so that all floor plans are integrated efficiently.

Restroom Rooms:

Men’s Restroom Layout:

Place a room for Men’s Restroom.

Include the required fixtures:

Fixture Count: 1 Toilet (or combined note for 1 toilet/1 urinal) and 1 Lavatory (as previously calculated for 50 occupants).

Clearly label with dimensions and fixture locations.

Use standard symbols for toilets, urinals, and lavatories.

Women’s Restroom Layout:

Create a separate room for Women’s Restroom.

Include the required fixtures:

Fixture Count: 2 Toilets and 1 Lavatory.

Tag and dimension the room accordingly.

Janitor Closet:

Draw a 5’-0” x 5’-0” room adjacent to the restroom core.

Label it as “Janitor Closet” and add necessary notes (if there are any door or layout requirements per the APH).

Dimensioning & Annotation:

Add overall dimensions to show the relationship between the mechanical core, elevator shaft locations, and restroom rooms.

Include notes for door swings and clearances, particularly for handicap-accessible fixtures.

Reference relevant APH pages or other code sections if required for clarity on sizes.

3. Enlarged Bathroom Plans (SA-5.1)
A. Detailed Restroom Layout
Bathroom Floor Plan:

Create a separate, enlarged view of the Men’s and Women’s restroom areas.

Ensure the drawings show a detailed layout with fixture locations, clearances, and circulation paths.

Fixture Placement:

For Men’s Restrooms:

Show detailed positions for the toilet, urinal(s), and lavatory.

Include clear markers for any handicap-accessible (HC) stalls, ensuring they are dimensioned per APH requirements (check pages 511–514).

For Women’s Restrooms:

Similarly, detail the toilet positions and lavatory locations.

Highlight where the handicap-accessible stalls are located. Add dimensions for stall widths, support rail placements, and door clearances.

Clearances & ADA Requirements:

Add annotations showing minimum clearances according to the APH (for instance, door swing dimensions on pages 389 and 403–405).

Verify that HC stalls and circulating spaces meet the required dimensions.

Door Details:

Identify door hardware and provide details if specific symbols are needed for accessible doors.

Make a note of any particular details (or call out details on an auxiliary sheet) showing door swing and hardware placement.

B. Annotation and Tagging
Add a Fixture Count Legend:

Reference the calculations from your drawings (e.g., “Men’s Restroom: 1 Toilet / 1 Urinal, 1 Lavatory; Women’s Restroom: 2 Toilets, 1 Lavatory”).

Notes:

Include the fixture count calculations (from the previous step) clearly on the drawing.

Tag each fixture with its function (e.g., “T1” for toilet, “U1” for urinal, “L1” for lavatory) and include dimensions.

4. Final Checks
Coordinate Levels:

Make sure that the Building Core (SA-5.0) drawing shows a consistent layout with your overall floor plans in your Revit model.

The enlarged bathroom plans (SA-5.1) should be clearly referenced (with call-out tags) on the SA-5.0 drawing.

Clarity & Neatness:

Verify that line work is neat, dimensions are legible, and all notes are clear.

Every room, fixture, and mechanical space should have a clear label and dimensioned annotations.

Compliance:

Double-check that all dimensions and arrangements meet the Architectural Portable Handbook (APH) and any local code requirements for occupancy type B.
