The SSU rDNA sequences from both fish shared > 99% identity to Kudoa species. Kudoa musculoliquefaciens was isolated from 87.1% of swordfish sampled, suggesting that it is a widespread parasite in swordfish from the southwest Pacific Ocean. This study provides the first molecular and morphological characterisation of Kudoa thunni in yellowfin tuna and K. musculoliquefaciens in swordfish harvested from the waters of eastern Australia, expanding the geographical distribution of K. thunni and K. musculoliquefaciens to include the Coral and Tasman Seas. We demonstrate that not all infected swordfish progress to jellymeat, show the usefulness of molecular tools for reliably identifying infection by Kudoa spp., and add to the overall knowledge of kudoid epizootiology in wild-caught fish.During the last three decades, QTL analysis in wheat has been conducted for a variety of individual traits, so that thousands of QTL along with the linked markers, their genetic positions and contribution to phenotypic variation (PV) for concerned traits are now known. PCI-34051 However, no exhaustive database for wheat QTL is currently available at a single platform. Therefore, the present database was prepared which is an exhaustive information resource for wheat QTL data from the published literature till May, 2020. QTL data from both interval mapping and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been included for the following classes of traits (i) morphological traits, (ii) N and P use efficiency, (iii) traits for biofortification (Fe, K, Se, and Zn contents), (iv) tolerance to abiotic stresses including drought, water logging, heat stress, pre-harvest sprouting and salinity, (v) resistance to biotic stresses including those due to bacterial, fungal, nematode and insects, (vi) quality traits, and (vii) a variety of physiological traits, (viii) developmental traits, and (ix) yield and its related traits. For the preparation of the database, literature was searched for data on QTL/marker-trait associations (MTAs), curated and then assembled in the form of WheatQTLdb. The available information on metaQTL, epistatic QTL and candidate genes, wherever available, is also included in the database. Information on QTL in this WheatQTLdb includes QTL names, traits, associated markers, parental genotypes, crosses/mapping populations, association mapping panels and other useful information. To our knowledge, WheatQTLdb prepared by us is the largest collection of QTL (11,552), epistatic QTL (107) and metaQTL (330) data for hexaploid wheat to be used by geneticists and plant breeders for further studies involving fine mapping, cloning, and marker-assisted selection (MAS) during wheat breeding.A novel papillomavirus (PV) was detected in farmed wels catfish (Silurus glanis) in Hungary showing clinical signs resembling those of wels catfish herpesvirus disease. The whole genome of Silurus glanis papillomavirus 1 (SgPV1) was identified using next-generation sequencing. The 5,612-bp complete genome contains four predicted protein coding regions (E1, E2, L1, and L2), which seem to have homologues in every PV genome sequenced to date. Five complete fish PV genome sequences are available in the GenBank database. Their genomes range between 5,748 and 6,086 bp and contain the minimal PV backbone genes E1, E2, L2, and L1, unlike PVs of higher vertebrates, which have larger genomes (6.8-8.6 kbp) and additional (onco)genes. Considering the current species demarcation criteria for the family Papillomaviridae, the establishment of a novel species named "Nunpapillomavirus siluri" is proposed for the SgPV1 in a novel genus, "Nunpapillomavirus", in the subfamily Secondpapillomavirinae.Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) cause superficial epidermal infections and are only cleared if they trigger an immunological response. We analysed SNPs that had previously been investigated for association with HPV infection to determine whether they play a role in the serological response to cutaneous beta-HPVs in an Australian population. Serum samples from 1,142 participants were analysed for seropositivity against the L1 protein of 21 beta-HPV types. Associations between seropositivity to beta-HPV types and the SNPs rs9264942 (HLA-C; HPV-9, p = 0.022, HPV-15, p = 0.043 and HPV-17, p = 0.004), rs12449858 (EVER1; HPV-23, p = 0.029), and rs2981451 (FGFR2; HPV-22, p = 0.049) were identified. We found that certain SNPs could be involved in the serological response to beta-HPVs.Hollyhock (Alcea rosea, family Malvaceae) is an ornamental plant grown widely in gardens across South Asia. In a bed of ornamental plants near the village of Chakri (Punjab Province, Pakistan) in 2014, hollyhock plants showing two distinct symptom types were identified yellow vein mosaic and leaf crumple. PCR amplification with universal primers amplified a begomovirus from separate nucleic acid extracts of single plants of each type but amplified a betasatellite only from the plant with the yellow vein mosaic symptoms. No potential begomovirus DNA B component or alphasatellite could be identified in either sample. After cloning, the genome sequences of two viruses, one from a plant of each symptom type, were determined and shown to share 99.9% nucleotide sequence identity with each other but less than 91% nucleotide sequence identity with all previously characterized begomoviruses, with the highest identity (90%) to an isolate of pedilanthus leaf curl virus (PeLCV). This indicates that the two hollyhock plants were infected with a newly identified begomovirus for which the name "hollyhock vein yellowing virus" (HoVYV) is proposed. HoVYV likely has a recombinant origin. The betasatellite showed the highest nucleotide sequence identity to an isolate of cotton leaf curl Multan betasatellite (CLCuMuB), a betasatellite associated with cotton leaf curl disease across Pakistan and northwestern India. These findings add to the diversity of known begomoviruses in South Asia and again highlight the role of hollyhock as a reservoir of the cotton leaf curl begomovirus betasatellite complex. The results also suggest that the yellow vein mosaic symptoms in hollyhock are due to the betasatellite rather than the virus.
