Mounting evidence suggests that such value-driven attention operates abnormally in certain psychopathologies, with attentional biases for reward-associated objects being either exaggerated or blunted compared to healthy controls. Here, I review the evidence linking value-driven attention to psychopathology, including drug addiction, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), compulsivity, and impulsive and risky decision-making. I conclude by offering an integrative framework for conceptualizing the link between value-driven attention and psychopathology, along with suggestions for future research into this burgeoning area of investigation, including research on object attachment.This article puts forth a perspective that attitudes and attitude strength can serve as precursors to object attachment. No trace of 2,4D could be detected in the pulvinar tissues treated for 1 h with 2,4D-L-Lys. Complementary approaches (electrophysiology, pH measurements, use of plasma membrane vesicles) suggest that it was less efficient than 2,4D to activate the plasma membrane H+-ATPase (PM-H+-ATPase). However, it modified the various ion-driven reactions of Mimosa pudica and Cassia fasciculata pulvini in a similar way as 2,4D. Additionally, it was much more effective than fusicoccin to inhibit seismonastic movements of M. pudica leaves and, at low concentrations, to promote leaflet opening in dark, indicating that its mode of action is more complex than the only activation of the PM-H+-ATPase. Various substitutions on 2,4D-L-Lys affected its activity in correlation with the molecular descriptor "halogen ratio" of these derivatives. Conjugation with D-Lys also led to a decrease of pulvinar reaction, suggesting that 2,4D-Lys maintains the main signaling properties of 2,4D involved in pulvinar movements providing that the terminal zwitterion is in a suitable orientation. Men who have sex with men (MSM) living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) are more likely to suffer from depressive symptoms (depression hereafter). This is a comprehensive meta-analysis of the prevalence of depression in HIV-infected MSM.

Relevant publications were systematically searched in PubMed, PsycINFO, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and Web of Science. Comparative and epidemiological studies with prevalence of depression as measured by the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) were included. The prevalence of depression was pooled using the random-effects model.

A total of 18 studies with 7653 MSM with HIV and 3395 MSM without HIV were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of depression in MSM living with HIV was 43% (95%CI 32%-53%). Compared to MSM without HIV, MSM living with HIV were more likely to be depressed (OR = 1.46, 1.05-2.03). Subgroup and meta-regression analyses revealed that different CES-D cut-off values and survey year had significant moderating effects on the prevalence of depression.

Depression was common in MSM living with HIV. Considering the negative effects of depression on health outcomes and wellbeing, regular screening for depression and effective treatment and interventions should be developed for this vulnerable population.

Alcohol use remains abundant in patients with traumatic injury. Previous studies have suggested that serum carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (%dCDT) levels, relative to blood alcohol levels (BALs), may better differentiate episodic binge drinkers from sustained heavy consumers in admitted patients with traumatic injury. We characterized %dCDT levels and BAL levels to differentiate binge drinkers from sustained heavy consumers in admitted trauma patients and their associations with outcomes.

This prospective, cross-sectional, observational study assessed %dCDT and BAL levels in admitted male and female patients with traumatic injury (≥18y) at an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma level-1 center from July 2014 to June 2016. We designated patients with %dCDT levels ≥1.7% (CDT+) as chronic alcohol users and dichotomized acutely intoxicated patients using three different BAL-level thresholds. Primary outcomes included in-hospital complications, along with prolonged ventilation and intensive careear prospective, cross-sectional, and observational study, we found that %dCDT levels, relative to BAL levels, may better stratify admitted patients with traumatic injury into acute versus chronic alcohol users, identifying those at higher risk for in-hospital complications.
