Aims We sought out to make comparisons between all atrial fibrillation (AF) catheter ablation technologies using randomized controlled trial data. Our comparisons were freedom from AF, procedural duration, and fluoroscopy duration. Methods Searches were made of EMBASE, MEDLINE, and CENTRAL databases, and studies were selected which had cryoballoon, conventional radiofrequency (RF), multipolar RF catheters, and laser technology as an arm in the study and were identified as randomized controlled trials (RCTs). These studies were analyzed for direct comparisons using conventional meta-analysis and a combination of indirect and direct comparisons via a network meta-analysis (NMA). Results With respect to freedom from AF both direct comparisons and NMA did not demonstrate any significant difference. NSC 640488 manufacturer However in analysis of procedural and fluoroscopy duration (minutes) for the pulmonary vein ablation catheter (PVAC), both conventional analysis and NMA revealed significantly shorter procedure times, RF vs PVAC (conventional 61.99 [38.03-85.94], P less then .00001; NMA 54.76 [36.64-72.88], P less then .0001) and fluoroscopy times, RF vs PVAC (conventional 12.96 [6.40-19.53], P = .0001; NMA 8.89 [3.27-14.51], P less then .01). The procedural duration was also shorter for the cryoballoon with NMA, RF vs CRYO (20.56 [3.47-37.65], P = .02). Discussion Our analysis demonstrated that while there was no difference in the efficacy of the individual catheter technologies, there are significant differences in the procedural duration for the PVAC and the cryoballoon. While they may seem an attractive solution for high-volume centers, further RCTs of next-generation technologies should be examined.Post-transplantation infections are common. In immunosuppressed human xenograft recipients, infection is most likely to be due to the same pathogens seen in human allotransplantation. However, organisms derived from swine and transmitted with xenografts have the potential to cause novel infections in xenograft recipients. The specific organisms likely to cause infection or "xenosis" are unknown but are postulated to be like those causing infection in allograft recipients. On this basis, theoretical exclusion criteria have been developed to guide the development of source animal herds. Herds developed based on the exclusion of potential human pathogens have been termed "designated pathogen-free" (DPF). Lists of potential pathogens will require revision with changing epidemiology of infection in swine worldwide and clinical experience. Development of new microbiological assays is required both for animal screening and in clinical diagnosis should infections occur. Genetic modifications of swine have the potential to eliminate certain infectious agents such as the porcine endogenous retrovirus; infectious complications of such modifications have not been observed. Unexpected, off target effects of genetic modifications require further study. Monitoring for infection in asymptomatic recipients is important to define infectious risks which are unknown in the absence of clinical trials data. Advanced microbiological techniques may be applied to diagnose and prevent infection in xenograft recipients.Introduction Angiogenesis is closely related to a variety of diseases, and therapies based on angiogenesis are intensely investigated. Studies have shown that the use of Gastrodiae Rhizoma (GR, Gastrodia elata) can benefit the treatment of ischemic cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerosis by stimulating angiogenesis. Objective This study tested the angiogenesis effects of a group of chemical markers isolated from GR. Material and methods Zebrafish model was used to evaluate angiogenesis by setting four groups blank control group, model group, positive control group and treatment group (0.1, 1, and 100 μg/mL RGP). The Gray correlation analysis (GCA) was implemented to calculate the correlation coefficients of each compound between the peak area in liquid chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-TOF-MS) and the bioactivity, the top ten components with the correlation degree > 0.9 were listed. Results and discussion The optimum final concentration of GR on proangiogenesis effect was determined to be 100 μg/mL. Ten compounds, including gastrodin, parishin E, stigmasterol, p-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, citric acid, etc., were identified to have high correlation coefficients with proangiogenic activity. Furthermore, the network pharmacologic analysis of these compounds revealed that the compounds systematically regulate the formation of new blood vessels via networked vital targets and signalling pathways. Conclusion GR can promote the growth of blood vessels, ten chemical components discovered contribute to this proangiogenesis activity. These chemical markers of GR thus provide a foundation for further studies on medicinal substances and quality evaluation of GR, also providing a scientific basis for modern interpretation of the processing theory of traditional Chinese medicine.Inspired by natural photosynthesis, biocatalytic photoelectrochemical (PEC) platforms are gaining prominence for the conversion of solar energy into useful chemicals by combining redox biocatalysis and photoelectrocatalysis. Herein, we report a dual biocatalytic PEC platform consisting of a molybdenum (Mo)-doped BiVO4 (MoBiVO4 ) photoanode and an inverse opal ITO (IO-ITO) cathode that gives rise to the coupling of peroxygenase and ene-reductase-mediated catalysis, respectively. In the PEC cell, the photoexcited electrons generated from the MoBiVO4 are transferred to the IO-ITO and regenerate reduced flavin mononucleotides to drive ene-reductase-catalyzed trans-hydrogenation of ketoisophrone to (R)-levodione. Meanwhile, the photoactivated MoBiVO4 evolves H2 O2 in situ via a two-electron water-oxidation process with the aid of an applied bias, which simultaneously supplies peroxygenases to drive selective hydroxylation of ethylbenzene into enantiopure (R)-1-phenyl-1-hydroxyethane. Thus, the deliberate integration of PEC systems with redox biocatalytic reactions can simultaneously produce valuable chemicals on both electrodes using solar-powered electrons and water.
