TALKING POINTS

Sidharth Lodha, Producer at Star Sports

Icebreaker: 15 minutes (you'll be seated with the audience and participate)
Talk: 30 minutes
Q&A: 15 minutes

In short, the session should answer these questions:
What is a producer?
Why should students consider getting into TV production?
How should you go about getting into production?
What does the industry expect from new entrants?

The way these questions are answered and the structure of the session is entirely up to you, but here are some suggestions:
- Think about 5 aspects of your job that best describe it
- Anecdotes: could be a great way to communicate what you do. For example, a match day scenario in the studio, or the process from scripting to shooting.
- Describing a typical day at work could provide an idea of your roles and responsibilities: This could include reading the papers in the morning and other preparation you need to do before reaching the office
- Skills and interests: Everyone thinks they know about cricket, so what is a the differentiator? Apart from good writing skills, what else is required to make it in sports?
- Personal projects: You can talk about how you maintained a cricket blog while you were a copywriter and how that helped you get a job in sports later. Encourage students to write while in college.
- You can discuss your personal experience switching fields, and how your past experience helps you now
- TV as a medium: Why it appeals to you
- How to start in TV
- Myth vs reality
-

If you feel you' and you feel is important can be asked during the Q&A

Relate as a BMM student

Some things to keep in mind:
Since there isn't a lot of time, focus on your profile alone.
The overall idea is to give students a clear picture of your job, so big picture stuff is not required.
Keep it simple. Steer clear of studio jargon and technicalities as students are not acquainted with them. If using jargon is unavoidable in certain cases, then please explain it to the students.
Students will ask about internships. Giving them your contact is entirely up to you.

Apart from a generic backdrop, we don't use PPT because we don't want the session to look like a presentation. But if there are visuals you feel would better describe your job, then do let us know and we will keep it ready.
