Preliminary results show statistically significant changes in the reported benefits and outcomes from students participating in the program.
The present study aimed to investigate and compare possible changes in amplitude and latency of pattern visual evoked potentials (PVEP) and thickness of quadrants of the macula (TQM) using optic coherence tomography (OCT).
According to polysomnography examinations, 30 mild, 30 severe, 30 controls were included in the study after approval from the ethics committee.
No significant difference was found in age and gender between the groups (
= 0.184 and
= 0.954). Significant difference was found between external and internal superior TQM, mean thickness of ganglion cell layer in comparison of all three groups (
= 0.011,
= 0.047,
= 0.030). In comparison between severe OSAS and control groups, significant difference was found in internal nasal, internal superior and external superior TQM (
= 0.048,
= 0.033,
= 0.014) while no significant difference was found TQM in comparison between the mild OSAS and control groups. In comparison between the group of severe OSAS and controls, significant increase was found in P100 as well as N145 latencies whereas only P100 latency was found to increase when mild OSAS was compared with controls. No significant correlation was found between TQM and PVEP parameters in mild and severe OSAS patients.
Latency and amplitude of PVEP altered in OSAS because edema and inflammation was remarkable in mild as well as severe stages of the disease. Furthermore, thinning in the macula was observed only in severe stages of the disease, explained with level of atrophy and exposure to extended hypoxia.

Recent Irish research, however, has identified that nurse prescribing when offered, is perceived to enhance care and offer better delivery of services. Since the legislation was introduced in the Republic of Ireland to enable nurses and midwives to prescribe in May 2007, there are now 1,123 nurses registered to prescribe medication. Mental health nurses, however, do not tend to be a priority when it comes to training in prescribing; in the UK it took two years after nurse prescribing was rolled out to extend the scheme to mental health nursing. Although nurse and other professional perspectives explored this topic, there is limited research specifically detailing the experience of service users in long term care who are prescribed by mental health nurse practitioners in a home care setting. This research follows a qualitative exploratory research design using thematic analysis to explore service user (n = 12) experiences of mental health nurse prescribing. The following four themes emerged from the analysis 'empowerment and trust'; 'person-centered care'; 'time and flexibility' and 'collaborative approach'. Results indicate a positive and rich experience of nurse prescribing, which facilitate a more trusting, holistic and autonomous therapeutic relationship. Future research looking at other issues relating to medication including reduction and support for coming off where appropriate is recommended.
We explored rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity before, during, and after pregnancy in patients treated with tight control and investigated the association between disease activity in the postpartum period and those before and during pregnancy.
We retrospectively reviewed disease activity and medications of 27 patients before pregnancy, at every trimester, and in the postpartum period.
Prednisolone was administered to 33% of patients with a median dose of 0 (0-2.5) mg/day and biologic agents was 78% in the third trimester. The median remission rates during all periods were the Disease Activity Score-28-C-reactive Protein assessed with three variables (DAS28-CRP-3) 85%, Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI) 55%, and Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI) 54%. Although SDAI and CDAI decreased significantly from before pregnancy to the first trimester and increased from the third trimester to the postpartum period, DAS28-CRP-3 did not change during all periods. Although SDAI and CDAI before and during pregnancy were significantly correlated with those in the postpartum period, DAS28-CRP-3 was not.
Tight control before pregnancy suppressed RA disease activity during pregnancy and in the postpartum period. SDAI/CDAI before and during pregnancy were predictive for disease activity in the postpartum period.

To evaluate the effects of pool-based exercises on pain symptomatology among adults with fibromyalgia syndrome.
A systematic review and meta-analysis were carried out using PRISMA guidelines. Database search was conducted by two independent reviewers. For meta-analysis, the visual analogue scale (VAS) score for pain was used as the primary outcome and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) score was utilized as the secondary outcome.
A total of 42 out of 292 potentially eligible studies were selected for being read in full by reviewers, 14 of which were included in meta-analysis, being 10 of them used in sensitivity analysis of either the primary or secondary outcome. Mycro 3 datasheet Data pooled from 10 randomized controlled trials (n = 508) revealed that patients who underwent pool-based exercises exhibited a significantly lower mean in VAS score as compared to controls (SMD = -0.27, 95% CI -0.45 to -0.09). Regarding FIQ scores, data from 10 randomized controlled trials were pooled (n = 578) and a lower mean score was also shown in the group that underwent a pool-based exercise program (SMD = -0.
