The association between muscle strength and body fat mass was modified by the genotypes studied.
SLC22A4 c.150C > T and SLC22A5 -207C > G polymorphisms are associated with tooth loss and markers of body shape in women but not in men.
Tooth loss may be related to obesity beyond inflammatory mechanisms, conceivably with a genetic background.

(i) To develop, validate, and apply in practice a new risk assessment tool for erosive tooth wear (ETW) including a risk factors questionnaire and a saliva secretion evaluation, which combined with a clinical index, can be part of an ETW composite scoring system; (ii) to assess ETW lesions and current and past erosive challenges in younger age groups.
The Tooth Surface Loss/Erosion Working Group of the European Association of Dental Public Health consisted of an international panel of experts designed the survey component of the new tool (Erosive Wear Assessment of Risk-EWAR) and confirmed its construct and content validity. After receiving ethical approvals and informed consents, the EWAR tool (questionnaire + saliva secretion evaluation) was applied in a multicenter cross-sectional study with 207 participants aged 15-21 years old from four countries (Finland, Greece, Romania, the USA). BEWE score was used for the clinical assessment of ETW.
A total of 58.5% of participants had ETW. 10.9% and 20.3% of TW were considered the most important in ETW occurrence.
EWAR tool combined with the BEWE clinical index can be used for ETW risk assessment for epidemiological studies and chairside use.

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) has been demonstrated to be effective in body weight control in individuals with obesity. Most clinical trials on rTMS provided a reassuring safety profile. In the present work, we present an extensive analysis on both severe and mild Adverse Events (AEs) in obese individuals treated with rTMS.
We examined the intensity, duration, correlation with the treatment, up to 1 year after the end of rTMS treatment.
Descriptive analysis included a total of 63 subjects undergoing a 5-week deep rTMS experimental treatment for obesity (age 48.3 ± 10.4 years; BMI 36.3 ± 4.4 kg/m
) 31 patients were treated with high-frequency rTMS (HF), 13 with low-frequency rTMS (LF), and 19 were sham treated (Sham). Thirty-two subjects (50.8%) reported a total of 52 AEs, including mainly moderate (51.9%) events. The most frequently reported side effects were headaches of moderate intensity (40.4%) and local pain/discomfort (19.2%) and resulted significantly more frequent in HF gr of brain stimulation.
Trocar site hernia (TSH) is often underestimated after minimally invasive surgery. Scarce information is available about the incidence of TSH in patients undergoing laparoscopic hernioplasty. We aimed to evaluate the incidence and risk factors of umbilical TSH after laparoscopic TAPP hernioplasty in patients with and without an associated umbilical hernia.
A retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected database of all patients who underwent laparoscopic inguinal TAPP repair during 2013-2018 was performed. After TAPP repair, the umbilical fascia was closed either by a figure-of-eight stitch with absorbable suture (G1) or by umbilical hernioplasty if it was present (G2). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the TSH risk factors. Comparative evaluation regarding demographics, and operative and postoperative variables was performed.
A total of 535 laparoscopic TAPP repairs were included. There were 359 (67.1%) patients in G1 and 176 in G2 (32.9%). Surgical site infection was higher in G2 (G1 0.6% vs G2 5.7%, p = 0.001). Overall TSH rate was 3.9% after a mean follow-up of 20 (12-41) months. Performing a concomitant umbilical repair significantly increased the risk of umbilical TSH (G1 2.2% vs G2 7.4%, p = 0.004). TSH rates in G2 were similar in patients with simple suture or mesh repairs (p = 0.88). Selleck Zegocractin Rectus abdominis diastasis (OR 37.8, 95% CI8.22-174.0, p < 0.001) and inguinal recurrence (OR 13.5, 95% CI2.04-89.5, p = 0.007) were independent risk factors for TSH.
Although trocar site hernia after laparoscopic TAPP repair has a low incidence, its risk is significantly increased in patients with a concomitant umbilical hernia repair, rectus abdominis diastasis, and/or inguinal recurrence.

Although it has been proven that various volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are produced during surgery, there have been no studies focusing specifically on endoscopy. Therefore, we aimed to investigate VOCs produced during endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).
Thirty-one patients scheduled for ESD were enrolled in this study. Sorbent tubes were installed to collect gas at two sites one in a suction bottle and the other at the level of the endoscopists' upper chest. Gas collections were performed for up to 30min during submucosal dissection. Quantitative analysis of the VOCs in gas samples was performed using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Concentrations of fifteen VOCs were measured. The total concentration of volatile organic compounds (TVOC) was also calculated.
Among the five carcinogens-benzene, ethylbenzene, formaldehyde, tetrachloroethylene, and trichloroethylene (TCE)-measured, excess life-time risks of cancer for benzene and TCE were interpreted as unacceptable based on the New Jersof counter measures is essential to protect medical personnel who are involved in ESD surgeries.
Surgical treatment of diastasis recti is still a matter of debate. Open approaches such as abdominoplasty, which offer the possibility to combine reparation of the diastasis with abdominal cosmetic surgery, are challenged by the emerging less-invasive laparoscopic or robotic techniques that offer shorter recovery for patients. However, evidence in favour of one of the two approaches concerning both short- and long-term complications and functional results is still lacking. In this paper, we analysed clinical and functional results of a new endo-laparoscopic technique for midline reconstruction (THT technique) in patients with primary abdominal wall defects associated with diastasis recti.
Prospective observational study on 110 consecutive patients was submitted to endo-laparoscopic reconstruction of the abdominal wall with linear staplers. Morbidity and relapse rates with clinical and radiological follow-up were recorded at 1, 6, 12, and 24months after the operation. Data regarding the impact of surgery on patients' quality of life (EuraHSQol) on chronic low back pain (Oswestry Disability Index, ODI) and urinary stress incontinence (Incontinence Severity Index, ISI) were gathered.
