Recent studies have demonstrated that various long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in the gastric cancer (GC) development and metastasis. Some lncRNAs exert their regulatory function by interacting with microRNAs. Here we identified a novel lncRNA RP11-81H3.2 that was highly expressed in the GC tissue and cell lines. RP11-81H3.2 knockdown significantly inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of GC cells. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that RP11-81H3.2 directly interacted with miR-339 while miR-339 regulated the HNRNPA1 expression by targeting HRRNPA1 3'-UTR. RP11-81H3.2-miR-339-HNRNPA1 interaction network regulated the GC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Moreover, our results confirmed that RP11-81H3.2 knockdown suppressed the tumor growth of GC in a xenograft model in vivo. In summary, the results suggest that RP11-81H3.2 functions as an oncogene in GC and could be utilized as a promising diagnosis and therapeutic marker for GC treatment. © 2020 The Authors. Cancer Medicine published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.INTRODUCTION Considering the difficulty in inculcating the habit of exercise in patients with type 2 diabetes, devising an easily maintained means of exercise is preferable. Passive body trunk exercise equipment (PBTE) developed for home use may solve several problems related to exercise therapy, both for patients and clinical staff involved in diabetes treatment; however, its efficacy as a therapeutic exercise device for patients with diabetes has not been ascertained. The purpose of this study was to measure the exercise intensity and self-efficacy of PBTE and to determine whether PBTE is a useful tool for exercise therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS The subjects were 20 patients with type 2 diabetes and the duration of exercise using the PBTE was set to 10 minutes. Oxygen consumption during exercise was measured, and self-efficacy for continuing to exercise using the PBTE and for walking was evaluated after completion of the study. RESULTS The average exercise intensity using the PBTE was 1.7 metabolic equivalents (METs), while the maximum exercise intensity was an average of 2.0 METs; the reported self-efficacy for continuing to exercise using the PBTE was significantly higher than for walking. CONCLUSIONS Exercise intensity using the PBTE is similar to low-intensity walking, and thus, it may be a useful therapeutic exercise device for patients with type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, it could be an effective exercise device for diabetic patients who do not have regular exercise habits, especially with reduced motor function or lower leg muscle strength. All rights reserved.INTRODUCTION There is still controversy on the use of brachio-basilic upper arm transposition fistula (BBAVF) and prosthetic brachio-axillary vascular access grafts (BAPTFE) in patients with no suitable cephalic veins for creating an autogenous brachio-cephalic fistula. METHODS In a randomized controlled clinical trial, 60 hemodialysis patients who were not a suitable candidate for BCAVF were randomly assigned into two groups BBAVF and BAPTFE. The patients were clinically followed up to 1 year and the patency rate and access-related complications were compared between the two groups. FINDINGS Access failure rate in the BBAVF and BAPTFE groups was 30.0% and 36.6%, respectively. The primary patency time was 232.73 ± 113.36 and 261.53 ± 147.37 days, respectively (P = 0.40). Thrombosis formation and infection were the two main causes for access failure, yet indicating no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). DISCUSSION BBAVF and BAPTFE have comparable clinical outcomes in short-term follow-up. Therefore, BAPTFE can be used as an alternative vascular access for hemodialysis in patients who are not a suitable candidate for BBAVF. © 2020 International Society for Hemodialysis.BACKGROUND Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) is a relatively new technique to diagnose pulmonary lesions in patients with reduced lung function. Several parameters have been shown to affect diagnostic yield including patient selection. We performed a prospective registration of data on one hundred patients who consecutively underwent electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy. Selection criteria, patient characteristics, lesion size, distance to pleura, location of the lesion and presence of bronchus sign on computed tomography were registered. METHODS Navigation was performed using the superDimension hardware and software system. Patients were referred to ENB from a multidisciplinary team conference. We did not use fluoroscopy, endobronchial ultrasound equipment, rapid onsite evaluation or general anesthesia during the procedure. All patients in whom no malignant diagnose was found were subsequently followed for two years in order to verify a benign nature of the pulmonary lesion. RESULTS One hundred and nine ENB procedures were performed between September 2009 and November 2014. Overall diagnostic yield was 68%. Twenty seven of 49 malignant tumors were found by ENB leading to a sensitivity for malignancy of 55%. The sensitivity for malignancy was significantly higher for lesions in the upper and middle lobes compared to the lower lobes (P = 0.01). Lesions size, distance to pleura and presence of bronchus sign did not affect sensitivity. CONCLUSION ENB is a safe diagnostic procedure in an everyday setting with an acceptable diagnostic yield even without addition of supportive diagnostic methods and offers a possibility to diagnose pulmonary nodules in patients for whom other diagnostic procedures are too hazardous or have proven unsuccessful. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.BACKGROUND Dyspnoea is a common, disabling symptom of people living with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), which may persist despite optimal management. OBJECTIVES To describe dyspnoea assessment in adults with ESKD receiving renal replacement therapy (RRT). DESIGN Systematic review. METHODS Five databases were searched. Primary studies reporting an assessment of dyspnoea in adults with ESKD receiving RRT were included. Studies were excluded where participants with ESKD had received palliative/conservative treatment (no dialysis) or renal transplant. Conference abstracts, protocols, commentaries and/or images were excluded. Two independent reviewers screened and extracted the data.
