The opposition, which came from diverse groups-religious, experts, politicians-led to polarizing debates about the social acceptability of this measure. Our finding shows that the so-called lay citizens refused to leave the discussion to experts and politicians and got involved in the debates around the issue. Our results also show that Twitter was mainly used to share information, hence complementing the role of traditional media. Overall, the platform gave rise to an "ambient political participation," allowing minority or marginalized groups as well as lay citizens to share their knowledge and opinion about MAID. This may have favored a certain form of empowerment.

In ASPIRE, 530 patients received ≥1 onabotulinumtoxinA treatment for lower limb spasticity (mean age, 52 years; stroke, 49.4%; multiple sclerosis, 20.4%). Equinovarus foot was treated most often (80.9% of patients), followed by flexed knee (26.0%), stiff extended knee use of onabotulinumtoxinA to improve spasticity management.
ASPIRE provides long-term observational data on the treatment of lower limb spasticity with onabotulinumtoxinA. Individuals affected by empty nose syndrome secondary to turbinate-sparing techniques (ENS-type) experience decreased productivity and lifestyle disruption owing to considerable nasal-associated discomfort. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of psychosomatic intervention on ENS-type.
A prospective self-controlled study was conducted, and 28 patients suffering from ENS-type who met the diagnostic criteria for somatic symptom disorder (SSD) according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5) received cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) plus antidepressants. Nasal symptom burden was evaluated using the 25-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-25). Somatic symptom burden, anxiety severity, and depression severity were assessed by the 25-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-15), the 9-item PHQ (PHQ-9), and the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale, respectively. Patient assessments were completed prior to treatment and 3 and 12 months after the intervention.
The total scores of the SNOT-25 declined posttreatment, showing a significant difference at the 3-month and 12-month follow-ups compared with the baseline scores (p < 0.001). The severity of the 5 most common subjective symptoms, including "nose is too open," "waking up at night," "lack of a good night's sleep," "difficulty falling asleep," and "reduced concentration," declined significantly at 3 and 12 months posttreatment compared to baseline levels. Statistically significant changes in the PHQ-15, PHQ-9, and GAD-7 scores were observed at 3 and 12 months posttreatment compared to baseline scores (p < 0.001).

Recently, the variant rs72613567TA in the 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13) has been associated with reduced levels of ALT and AST and a reduced risk of alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) in the European population. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the association between the polymorphisms of HSD17B13 and ALD, liver serum markers and patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) p.I148M in the Chinese Han population.
A case-control study was performed from five centres and included 769 ALD patients and 767 healthy controls. Two SNPs (rs72613567 and rs6834314) in HSD17B13 were genotyped using the Sequenom MassArray system and allele association analysis was performed using PLINK 1.90 software.
HSD17B13 rs72613567TA allele was associated with a reduced risk of ALD by 19% (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.05-0.31, P=.01), uniformly, the G allele in the rs6834314 reduced the risk of ALD by 19% (95% CI 0.05-0.31, P=8.28×10
). And the genotypes of two SNPs were associated with reducing the risk of ALD in three genetic model analysis.
