In Britain, unprecedented restrictions on daily life associated with the Covid-19 pandemic included the suspension of professional sports events during the initial 'lockdown'. This provides opportunities to observe changes in sports bettors' behaviour when their primary form of activity is removed and assess the impact of Covid-19 related circumstances upon gambling.
In July 2020, we conducted an online cross-sectional survey of people who bet regularly (at least monthly) on sports before Covid-19 (n=3866). Bi-variate analyses compared changes in gambling behaviours before and during the initial lockdown. Multi-variate logistic regression models explored associations between problem gambling (men) and moderate risk or problem gambling (MRPG) (women) with changes in Covid-19 related circumstances and changing gambling behaviours during Britain's initial 'lockdown' (March-June 2020).
29.8% of male sports bettors and 33.4% of female sports bettors stopped gambling altogether during the initial Covid-19 lockdown, though 17.3% of men and 16.5% of women started a new form of gambling during lockdown. Among men, adjusted odds ratios of problem gambling were higher among those starting a new gambling activity during lockdown (OR=2.50 [95% CI 1.38-4.53]). Among women, adjusted odds ratios of MRPG were higher among those whose frequency of gambling on any activity increased during lockdown (OR=4.21 [1.99-8.92] and among those shielding for health reasons. Poorer wellbeing was associated with problem gambling for men and MRPG for women.

Those changing gambling behaviours during the initial Covid-19 lockdown (e.g. increasing gambling frequency or starting a new gambling activity) are potentially vulnerable to gambling harms.The 18-item Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R) is a widely used self-report measure of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) symptoms, yet its factor structure does not converge with contemporary dimensional models of OCD symptoms. In addition to assessing the four core OCD dimensions, the OCI-R includes hoarding and neutralizing factors. However, since its publication, hoarding has been designated as a separate disorder, and there are concerns about the neutralizing factor's reliability and validity. The aim of this study was to evaluate a syndromally valid modification of the OCI-R. Adult samples of individuals diagnosed with OCD (n = 1087), anxiety related disorders (n = 1306), and unselected community volunteers (n = 423) completed the OCI-R and measures of anxiety and mood. Analyses excluded the 3 OCI-R hoarding items and suggested the removal of the 3 neutralizing items. Internal consistency, sensitivity and specificity to OCD clinical status, test-retest reliability, sensitivity to treatment, and convergent and discriminant validity were evaluated for the resultant 12-item scale (termed the OCI-12). A data-driven approach was applied to identify out-of-sample predictors of current depression from adults (N = 217) sampled on a continuum of no depression to clinical levels. The current study used elastic net regularized regression and predictors from sociodemographic, self-report, polygenic scores, resting electroencephalography, pupillometry, actigraphy, and cognitive tasks to classify individuals into currently depressed (MDE), psychiatric control (PC), and no current psychopathology (NP) groups, as well as predicting symptom severity and lifetime MDE. Cross-validated models explained 20.6% of the out-of-fold deviance for the classification of MDEs versus PC, 33.2% of the deviance for MDE versus NP, but -0.6% of the deviance between PC and NP. Additionally, predictors accounted for 25.7% of the out-of-fold variance in anhedonia severity, 65.7% of the variance in depression severity, and 12.9% of the deviance in lifetime depression (yes/no). Self-referent processing, anhedonia, and psychosocial functioning emerged as important differentiators of MDE and PC groups. The procedure objective was multiplying antioxidant effects of the hydrolysate complexed with furcellaran. Films were used on Atlantic mackerel (storage 4 °C, 15 days); samples were analysed for changes in microbiological quality, TVB-N, biogenic amine content, fatty acid composition, TBARS. Consumer analysis was performed characterising mackerel carcass perception depending on implemented active coatings. The developed innovative single- and double-layer coatings effectively slow down lipid oxidation processes, especially at the initial period of Atlantic mackerel storage in refrigerated conditions. The coatings effectively inhibited microorganism growth, extending shelf-life by 2 days, single-layer coatings showing greater efficiency. According to consumers, coating application did not adversely affect product attractiveness parameters.
