505-92.183; P = 0.003) and Onyx volume ≥ 6 ml (OR 1.138; 95% CI, 1.006-1.288; P = 0.040) were significant factors associated with these hemorrhagic complications.
Hemorrhagic complications associated with endovascular DAVF embolization are not negligible. The pial arterial supplier, giant venous aneurysm and higher Onyx volume in one session may be risk factors for endovascular DAVF embolization.

SARS-CoV-2 disease 2019 (COVID-19) is highly contagious and spreads rapidly. The application of preventive measures has proven to be the best strategy to minimize the number of patients and the dissemination of and deaths from COVID-19. The objective of this study was to determine the risk factors that limit the adherence of asthmatic patients to measures that prevent COVID-19 among residents of a region with a high risk of a COVID-19 outbreak.
Through a cross-sectional study, data from 2,372 participants aged 16-24 years were analyzed. To collect their information, a questionnaire was constructed using the Google Forms tool. Due to the prevention measures in place for COVID-19, the home quarantine of many people, and the lack of socialization, the questionnaire was distributed through email (Internet) and WhatsApp. A logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the variables.
The prevalence of asthma was 12.2%, and non-adherence to the guidelines for the prevention of COVID-19 was 53.1%. Approximately 30.8% of asthma patients did not comply with the basic prevention measures for COVID-19. The results of the logistic regression analysis showed that being male, active smoking, and believing that COVID-19 is not a more severe disease for people suffering from asthma than others were associated with non-adherence to the basic protection measures established in the guidelines for the prevention of COVID-19.
It is important for health professionals to advise asthma patients to comply with the basic measures of protection against COVID-19 and timely use medications for asthma control.

To establish whether a correlation exists between the fetal middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity (MCA PSV) and fetal hemoglobin levels before intrauterine transfusion (IUT) in cases of severe fetal anemia.
This was a single-center, retrospective study of data from 49 fetuses treated with IUT for fetal anemia between 2003 and 2018. Selleck Metformin Severe fetal anemia was suspected when MCA PSV was or exceeded 1.55 multiples of the median.
The causes of anemia were largely idiopathic, and the overall survival rate was 57%. MCA PSV and hemoglobin were correlated in all 34 fetuses with alloimmune fetal anemia, whereas the 15 fetuses with nonimmune causes showed no correlation. Of the 15 noncorrelated cases, twin pregnancy was most common, followed by idiopathic causes. All the twin pregnancies involved monochorionic twins. Fetal hydrops, especially ascites, was significantly associated with severe anemia.
Fetal MCA PSV may not be a reliable independent factor for the diagnosis of severe fetal anemia in nonimmune cases, and the presence of associated hydrops implies that the fetus is more likely to have severe fetal anemia than in a fetus without hydrops.

Housing insecurity is an important socioeconomic factor that may impact emergency department (ED) use for children with asthma, but housing insecurity screening has primarily relied on patient surveys or linkage to external data sources. Using patient addresses recorded in the electronic medical record (EMR), we sought to correlate recent changes in address (as a proxy for housing insecurity) with ED revisit risk.
We retrospectively identified patients age 2-17 years seen in our rural ED for asthma exacerbation during 2016-2018. We used EMR data from the 12 months before the earliest ED visit to compare patients with and without a recent change of address (over previous 12 months) on 30- and 90-day all-cause and asthma-specific ED revisits.
The study included 632 children, of whom 85 (13%) had a recent address change before the index ED visit. Moving was not associated with asthma-specific 30-day or 90-day revisits. Ninety-day all-cause revisits were more common among patients who had recently moved (36% vs. 25%;
= 0.019), although this difference was not statistically significant after multivariable adjustment for Medicaid insurance coverage and number of recent health system encounters (odds ratio 1.49; 95% confidence interval 0.91, 2.46;
= 0.114).
A history of recent address change in the EMR was not independently associated with repeat ED visits for asthma exacerbation. Many children presenting to the ED did not have recent encounters with our health system where address could be ascertained. This EMR-based proxy for housing insecurity may be more applicable to patients under continuous follow-up.

The β-D-Mannuronic acid (M2000) as a novel immunosuppressive drug, patented (PCT/EP2017/067920), has shown positive effects in experimental model of multiple sclerosis (MS). In this study, our aim was to assess efficacy and safety outcomes in MS treated patients with mannuronic acid compared to the conventional drug.
In a 6-month, randomized controlled, phase II trial, we enrolled patients who had secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS), were 21-54 years of age, with a score of 1-7 on the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), and who had at least one relapse in the previous 6 months. Patients were administered orally 1000 mg/day (two 500 mg/capsule daily) of M2000. Endpoints included changes in brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measures and the EDSS score, as compared to the conventional drug (interferon beta-1a, interferon beta-1b).
A total of 25 (92.5%) of the M2000 treated patients and 25 conventionally treated patients completed the study. M2000 had better performance compared to the conventional drug regarding to MRI-related measurements, however, the differences between groups were not statistically significant.
