The different roles played by ring substituents are often not obvious from quantum yields for product formation and the rate constant for hydrogen abstraction is quite low ( less then 107 s-1 ), but Hautala (Tetrahedron Lett. 1977, 18, 2499-2502) reported unusual effects of the nitro substituent in aryl ketones. They reported the first examples of such and discuss for another role played by the nitro group. They determined an upper limit of less than 2 × 10-5 to the quantum yield for formation of nitro substituent. They hypothesized the carbonyl localized state may be populated with high quantum efficiency, rapid deactivation occurs to populate the lower lying nitro localized state. We focus on the case where the theoretical studies are of great importance and indispensable, such as resolving the debate on the stepwise and concerted mechanism of hydrogen abstraction. Our proposed new mechanisms for 2-ethoxy-1-phenylethanone are based on the energy, HOMO-LUMO, dipole moments, etc. We provide modifications to experimentally proposed mechanisms or completely new mechanism with Hammett, synchronicity, singlet fission and relative rate equations to explain successfully the previous result. At the end, we show why an unusual effect of the nitro substituent exists in it.
Long-term observations show that flowering phenology has shifted in many lineages in response to climate change. However, it remains unclear whether these results can be generalized to predict the presence, direction, or magnitude of responses in lineages for which we lack long time-series data. If phenological responses are phylogenetically conserved, we can extrapolate from species for which we have data to predict the responses of close relatives. While several studies have found that closely related species flower at similar times, fewer have evaluated whether phylogenetically proximal species respond to environmental change similarly.

We paired flowering time data from 3161 manually scored herbarium specimens of 72 species of grasses (Poaceae) with historical climate data and analyzed the phylogenetic signal and phylogenetic half-life of phenological sensitivity. We also ran these analyses on a subset of species showing statistically significant sensitivities, in order to assess the role of sampling n sensitivity.The aim of the present study was to fabricate and characterise chitosan scaffolds from animal and fungal sources, with or without gelatine as a co-polymer, and cross-linked to 3-glycidyloxyproply trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) or genipin for application in dental root tissue engineering. Chitosan-based scaffolds were prepared by the emulsion freeze-drying technique. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nano-focus computed tomography (nano-CT) were used to characterise scaffold microstructure. Chemical composition and cross-linking were evaluated by Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy. Compression tests were performed to evaluate scaffold mechanical properties. Scaffold degradation was evaluated by gravimetric method and SEM. Scaffold bioactivity immersed in simulated body fluid was evaluated by SEM, with associated electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and apatite formation was examined by X-ray diffraction. Finally, human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) viability was evaluated. The fabrication method used was successful in producing scaffolds with organised porosity. Chitosan source (animal vs. fungal), co-polymerisation with gelatine and cross-linking using GPTMS or genipin had a significant effect on scaffold properties and hDPSCs response. Selleckchem TNO155 Chitosan-genipin (CS-GEN) scaffolds had the largest pore diameter, while the chitosan-gelatine-GPTMS (CS-GEL-GPTMS) scaffolds had the smallest. Animal chitosan-gelatine co-polymerisation increased scaffold compressive strength, while fungal chitosan scaffolds (fCS-GEL-GPTMS) had the fastest degradation rate, losing 80 % of their weight by day 21. Gelatine co-polymerisation and GPTMS cross-linking enhanced chitosan scaffolds bioactivity through the formation of an apatite layer as well as improved hDPSCs attachment and viability. Tailored chitosan scaffolds with tuned properties and favourable hDPSCs response can be obtained for regenerative dentistry applications.
Our objective was to review economic evaluations of immunization and tuberculosis to determine the extent to which additional unintended consequences were taken into account in the analysis and to describe the methodological approaches used to estimate these, where possible.

We sourced the vaccine economic evaluations from a previous systematic review by Nymark et al. (2009-2015) and searched PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase from 2015 to 2019 using the same search strategy. For tuberculosis economic evaluations, we extracted studies from 2009 to 2019 that were published in a previous review by Siapka et al. We followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidance. Studies were classified according to the categories and subcategories (e.g., herd immunity, non-specific effects, and labor productivity) defined in a framework identifying additional unintended consequences by Nymark and Vassall. Where possible, methods for estimating the additional unintended consequences categories and subcategories were described.
